Cyclops

What do you call a group of Cyclops? Cyclopses? Cyclopi? I apologise for the banality of this. I would Twitter it but... I'll Twitter it.

Ah, plurals and collective terms, what a wealth of possibilities...

Allan, scampi is a plural, the singular is scampo, and the plural of sheep is even more sheep. Also known as a leisure centre in some parts of the country.

Octopus? To be brutally correct and Ancient Greek on yer *rs*, the plural is ocotopodes. If you were sitting in one of those wonderful seafood noshing places in Greece and asked for ocotopi, though, they'd know what you meant. (It would still arive out of sequence and lukewarm, mind. And washed down with lashings and lashings of retsina.)

Collective terms are jolly tricky and occasionally brighten the day, such as a paddling of ducks, an exaltation of larks, a chattering of choughs or a company of actors, capitalists or widgeon.

Or, of course, a wunch of bankers.

Bi late this, but I THINK Octopus is is Octopodes, but I can't remember whether pluralalises the animal or the feet, in which case it would be tautological.

Sorry. It's been a froggit day.
