Hi,
Does anyone know what the equity rates are on a daily and/or weekly basis for actors working on a student film are, please?
Thanks,

In relation to Point #4!
Giving an actor expenses and paying them are two different things! By offering expenses, you're not giving an actor anything, unless you expect them to be out of pocket by giving their services to you? Similarly, if you 'pay' them only the rate suggested, you will make them think twice for the same reason. Some actors are happy to do things for expenses, but it seems you're trying to get away with laying out as little money as possible. When it comes to film schools, with the huge fees they receive, it seems a VERY simple thing to lay some of this aside to pay actors for the films required of the course.
about £40 per day , plus expenses , and ususally with meals !
hope thats ok pete xs
Have a look on their website. not sure if you're a member but I think they're available to everyone. Alternatively, give them a quick call.
Cheers

We have never been paid our dues.Years and years back we were paid a couple of chickens, some mead and apples from some orchard or other (if we hadn't stolen them first)
All for the telling of a story.....Some things never change. B
A lovely book re 'an Actor's life' is Robert Courtneige's 'I Was An Actor Once'. He was the father of Cicely.
I think you just have to negotiate your rates and whether or not you want expenses as well with the potential employer, student or otherwise.
Regarding charities, I thought charities paid their workers, except those on the front line who volunteer while the office workers get a good salary.
It boils down to students (not) being taught that making good films is not cheap, and while they are paying £300 + for a good camera and DoP, they need to pay the people acting in front of it. Without the actors there is no film, full stop! You can have a great actor and a not so good camera, but still have a good film.
Besides, students can give up drinking or whatever for the weekend and use that money to pay up.

way would you work for a student film anyway ?
Adnan, because they are future film directors and producers.
I maintain that it is the educational institutions at fault for not allocating funds (as part of the course fees) for students' productions. It seems to me that they are not teaching their students how nor what to budget for a film.
