Frustration

Is it me or does it seem to others that the tv and film industry are expecting us actors to work for peanuts?
Just seen adverts for actors here and on SPOTLIGHT for £90-110 per day for non-speaking roles with scenes of a sexual nature! Come on, they have to be joking. Travel costs alone can be more than that! So frustrating and downright insulting methinks. I expect they will get hundreds of applications though that will do nothing to enhance our profession.

It’s a numbers game unfortunately, eg there are 70.000 registered on Spotlight alone, then you have non professional sites such as this, StarNow etc plus social media.

I’ve seen projects cast on follower numbers alone, and several very well known casting directors now post regularly on Instagram advertising for work with no acting experience required.

There’s just too many people chasing the dream. It’s supply and demand unfortunately and that drives the prices and arguably the professionalism, down.

The way forward is to get a great agent who has good relationships with the main CDs and who gets you regular, quality submissions, the kind of work that never even hits Spotlight…but getting a top agent is another discussion!

My favourite post some time was for a 'Feature Film'. Main feature being that there was no pay!

Sadly Oliver is right - the only way to get some control is to have a reputable agent with good contacts.

Hi Tamzin, yes I saw the exact listing you were talking about and thought it was disgraceful. I am pretty certain the celebrity presenter wouldn't be getting £90 for the gig!
I just hope there is a lack of applicants for the programme because it will hopefully let the production company know that £90 just doesn't cut it to be involved of scenes of a sexual nature. And, actually, I would be very worried if an actor applied at all for one of these roles! No mention of an intimacy coach either :/

Until Actors tell people exploiting them to F. off and ,they stop advertising here, and people stop applying for these things, then it will continue. Actors here need to stick together and agree not to do these crappy 'jobs', then the 'Employers ' will be forced to find some real ££££. Lets face it, 'Employers' areon this site to try and get Actors on the cheap

I’m so glad to see someone speaking out about this! The amount of work out there that’s a ridiculously low pay is crazy! Never mind that this is something we studied, trained for, put time and effort in, just so we’re offered peanuts for serious work we have to put in! The only way to stop this is to simply not apply and refuse to work for anything less than a decent pay. Then they would have to think twice about asking professional actors to do the job for such offensive pay! Gotta stay strong, respect yourself and stick together ✊
