Guess My Age

Please help! I never know what to set my playing age at, I always see casting calls for younger looking actresses and think "ooh, i could do that" but then can't apply for it because I've set my playing age to something else. Hence the guess my age game. Be honest, Be brutal. :oD

Ok... I'm going with 23. I'm sorry if I'm way off!! I would put you in the 18 - 25 bracket anyway :)

Definitely 18-25 so you should put your age on this site as 18 as you'll be able to go for all those listed 18-25. Of course if it says 18-26, you won't be able to go for it :-))

Hey Genevieve

Having just met you earlier today, I would have thought your casting age is 24 (although I know you mentioned 'being older'!).I think your photo casting age would be around about the same - definitely early-mid 20's. Plus, I recognised you from your pic in the green room straight away so they're good headshots.

Hope the audition went well.

HI Geneveive,

I reckon from your headshot I would guess you to be 24, but looking at your other pictures, you could definately play younger - your final shot could easily be 17!

This whole playing age thing is really hard, because for stage work you have a much broader range obviously than tv and film, which is more likely to pick up your true age (which according to Clare's post is 'older'!)

I think what you choose to put down should reflect the type of work you are more interested in (and I know, ANY work is usually the work I'm most interested in!)

(And Toni, I think you meant she 'could apply if it said 18-25, but not if it said 19-25'!)

I think you pics are great, and I would have to put you at about 23-24 from looking at them.

i'd also say you fall into the 18-25 bracket, guessing 24 in real life? your main headshot is lovely

i would recommend lots of water , fruit, exercise of any description, and products by nikel, kiels, and clinique...you can then look so good , playing age can be anything from 20-40!

This is a totally pointless excercise.
I'm sorry, Dudette!
No one can say what any woman's playing age should be when 15 year olds can get into nightclubs and 'women of a certain age' can wear clothes, make up and have 'treatments' that alter what they look like!
Go for any role you like as long as you 'feel' that you could sensibly 'pull it off'. Let the CDs decide!
Agism is the worst 'ism' of them all for men as well as women.

Yeah I think the decision is pretty much unanimous, and I'd agree 18-25 range...

On a similar subject, does anyone know why the playing age feature has changed? A while ago you could actually put 18-25 but now it's just one age. It's a bit gutting actually because my range is quite young to 25 (I'm actually 23 if you wondered) and I couldn't apply for a 23 job the other day as I've had to settle on an average of 20.

Is this a permanent fixture now? I prefered it so much more before. I tried changing my age to 23 for that one job because obviously that falls into my playing range but then because i changed it I couldn't apply for any jobs for 24 hours.

I understand if people were abusing the system and putting 1-100, but that wouldn't even benefit them for the obvious reasons. I can't think of any other reason for changing it really, but am now losing potential jobs because of it.

Has everyone elses profile changed in this way or have I just hit a wrong button?

Hope it goes back to how it was... wow I didnt expect to ramble so much! This has been bothering me for a while obviously haha

Look on the thread 'Views' and you'll see a major discussion on this very point!

Ah thanks very much, I don't have time to read through all the listings so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I'm glad it's not just my profile anyway,

I have a big problem with the age system on CCP, and written to the admins many times about it. There should only be a "playing age range" available to both actors AND employers.

Real age has NO bearing whatsoever to the job, with the exception of employment rules for minors. In fact, in the U.S, it's ILLEGAL for them to ask your real age in an audition. If you give employers the choice of real age, of course they will take it, it cuts down the replies by a shedload. Also, I admit, it will cut down on the amount of idiots who think their range is far wider than it is.

That said, I'm a really young looking bloke, and have lost out on applying for LOADS of castings because of this system.

I'm with Mark on this as I've asked admin many times why I can't apply for jobs that I can easily play as my age is now 22. I can easily play down to 17 or up to 25 dependent on styling, make up and general attitude!

I've been restricted from many castings on here because of this and would love to have an age range as most of the other sites do applied on this site. I've become so frustrated by it that I often don't bother to look at castings because this new system "locks me out" of applying for them.

Please change it Admin!!

Sasha and Mark, I'd like to point you in the same direction. The thread 'Viewings' has a great deal to say on this very subject.

Sadly, lad and lasses, whilst we want to maximise the number of roles we can apply for, the Casting Directors want to minimise the number of people who can apply - makes their initial job that much easier. CCP is stuck between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, so to speak.

I understand your frustration, but when I first joined, all CDs specified by actual age, not playing age, so I got very frustrated, because although I am 49, no one thinks I'm anywhere near that, and I wasn't even getting castings because of it. Now my playing age is 42, and my 'hit' rate is much better. Under the old system, I couldn't apply for jobs that I was best suited to, because the age range would be 40 - 45. Now I can. And I don't mind not being able to apply for the 45 - 50 roles, because it isn't my best playing range, even though I definately could 'act' that age, after all I am actually that age!

And I know that there's a vast difference between playing age on stage and on screen, and that almost all of us can play well above or well below our true ages on stage, the screen is another matter altogether, as it's not very forgiving, unless the DOP allows inches think layers of Vaseline on the camera lens (LOL!!). But the problem is, if the CDs open up the scope for application too wide, then they are inundated with responses and can't begin to weed the right ones out.

I have spoken to a well-known Casting Director who has stopped using Spotlight Breakdowns for just that reason - she was getting too many applications and was overwhelmed by it all.

It's a hard knock life for us, as my MT counterpart might say!

ok...thanks for your guesses...I'm sorry I didn't mean to turn it into a debate at all...and im very sorry for those of you who got upset and think the post was a bit banal and not very useful to you...but you're the one whi clicked on the thread entitled "guess my age". it wasn't supposed to be a deep philosophical discussion into the minds of casting directors...just a bit of superficial help for me (which I fiund very usefull indeed).
If you want to read more about the playing age debate apparently there's a thread somewhereorother...and if you email ccp directly, they have a preformatted explaination which they will be more than happy to send you.
