Guess My Age

Please help! I never know what to set my playing age at, I always see casting calls for younger looking actresses and think "ooh, i could do that" but then can't apply for it because I've set my playing age to something else. Hence the guess my age game. Be honest, Be brutal. :oD

Ah, dinky dudette, once you've been on here for a while, you'll find that any thread can be hi-jacked and used to deep and meaningful purposes! Don't take it personally and just go along with the flow. You have all the answers you want about the question you first posed, and although the 'Viewings' thread is interesting, it isn't specifically about age, which your thread is.

There aren't any rights and wrongs, it's a public forum, and as long as no one is being offensive or libellous, we can say what we damn well like. I hope it hasn't dissuaded you from future postings - we all like something that starts up heated debate!

Best of luck!

...and having just checked out the Viewings thread, the discussion on there is now closed, so I couldn't have added my threepenny's worth anyhow!

Phew - sometimes, it's a full-time job just keeping up with postings on this site!! Long may it last!

Annie, you're right to aim at much younger roles for you. I thought when we met at that casting you were about 40.
Dudette, you're no older than 20. Take ALL of the teenage roles. But you'll have to specify your age on here as 17.

Yes it is definitely good to be able to talk on this forum board.

I noticed the viewing thread has been closed which is a shame because I had a bit more I wanted to say.

But not to worry we now have the new Equity forum site in the members only area of the Equity website. So if we wanted to carry on a discussion about CCP we could start one on the Equity forum. Obviously no libellous comments are allowed on the Equity site but it good to know we now have one. Only 154 Equity members have registered on the forum site so far. Which is not bad as it has only been up and running for a week.

Cheers
TRACEY

Yes, closing the viewing thread does come over as heavy handed.

From where I stand the proof of the pudding on age-ranges is that I've had a good success rate by "going elsewhere" (on selected occasions) and applying for roles just outside the quoted range.

For some reason casting calls tend to arbitrarily fall on 5-y multiples. Being just 1 month the wrong side on here means you don't get the chance to use common sense.

Sorry to hijack your thread dinkydudette!! No offence meant - just a slight deviation from the main topic!! I would say you can look between 18 and 24. Are you going to tell us your REAL age so we know who wins the cigar?

Hi - I had a look at your picture on your profile without loking at the age you have put and I would put you at 23-24. I have a similar problem of now knowing what age bracket to out me in, so I asked a casting director what age he thought and he said the same age as most of the strangers I meet. I would go with the general consensus and not what you hope you can play whether that is your real age or not. Saying that though, I have been cast a lot younger than my age and also around my age, which is a big year gap. Just make sure you play up or down to the age you are supposed to be at a casting (and also dress accordingly) and that your photos give the right impression of you. I feel it gives me a wider range in applying for jobs.
