I think Schooling and training is important but certainly not as important as the raw ability of the individual or the work that he or she puts in. Work beats talent when those who are talented don't work.

This is a movie we're talking about also - very different to stage work. Diction is important in terms of clarity of speech but projecting one's voice is unimportant on film in my opinion.

Either way good luck to him and to all of us!

I think training is important but not the most important aspect of being an actor. How many actors train in brilliant establishments, yet give up after a couple of years or months even? How many of these "trained" actors graduating from reputable schools get very little work? How many of them realise that they're better at teach acting than acting itself?

The most important aspect of acting, in my opinion, is the individual. More than any school or training or teachers. Personally, I'd kill to go to a place like Julliard, but I don't think it means I can't have a successful career if I don't.

I would stop moaning and get a life, hate it when actors go on about the struggle or graft. Trying to be an actor is neither of those things it's easy and only entails clicking on an application for something, auditioning and then if lucky enough to get the role, prancing around a room with some middle/upper class prats who talk about there craft and play guitar inbetween rehearsal breaks. Actors don't know the meaning of the word graft. Who cares if Harry styles is in something because he's famous at least it's not because is family are already in the profession or his mommy and daddy paid his drama school fees.

I think before you become an actor you must abolish or control jealousy. This is much bigger than Harry Styles getting a movie role, the fact is that the part probably was never meant for you in the first place. I live by an ethos that if the shoe fits, it fits and if it doesn't then I will keep searching for the right pair. I make a point to not get annoyed when people (famous or not) i know (either personally or via media) get the parts I wanted. It is such a waste of energy! All this time put into this feed could have been put into getting a better agent, or applying for that job or socializing or making you feel better! All I see here is a lot of bad vibes.

The beauty of acting is that you do not need ANYTHING to prove you are in fact an "actor" Without blowing my horn too much I have been successful since the age of 16 without any drama school or training. Lots of actors will disagree with the above but who cares?

I think actors would be more successful if they stopped focussing on other people/actors and focused all that energy and head space on themselves. Acting for me is about the journey, if i am already at the end of the story then what is left? NOTHING!

There is not elevator to success everyone has to take the never ending staircase. Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey WHOEVER all went on a journey it didnt just happen! If you think it will just "HAPPEN" over night then choose another profession and stop moaning on here about other artists work...you could have done so many other things by now! RANT OVER- PEACE AND LOVE!

Acting is a level playing field David Cameron, the Pope Joe Bloggs, anyone can do it. Actors need the talent to stand in front of an audience or camera and not be found out. Will Harry be found out?

He should not be allowed to leap frog his way over others because he comes from a manufactured pop band. Graft or not, our profession deserves respect and should not be open to every tom dick or harry who want to keep their face in the public eye.

What do people think of David Beckham appearing in the new Guy Ritchie King Arthur movie, then? A whole new can of worms, I expect.

Toni Brooks
Actor

Back in the day, pop stars were placed in films - Lulu, John Lennon, Fabian, Jess Conrad to name but a few. Things don't really change, they get more prolific.
