...and that snobbishness is being perpetuated in these pages too apparently!

While I fully agree that crowd, passerby's and general SA's should not 'create' named character's and add themselves to IMDb as that is blatently dishonest but why shouldn't a special skills SA who delivers a couple of lines of dialog, does some precision driving or participates in a fully choreographed fight scene not also get somesort of recognition too!

If only everyone treated all participants on set and behind the scenes with mutual respect from the Director right down to the lowly passerby then this industry would be so much more fun to be involved in!

I full agree with that too. SA should indeed be credited and in my experience usualy are, after principal cast there is room for other named characters. Surely any such individual taking part and performing stunt work woud be duely credited thus.

I think we're making the same point Forbes. I don't see what sonobbishness you mean. If you have lines of dialogue, you should be logged, of course. If you have no dialogue but a using a skill i.e. driving/stunts etc, then you can be logged under that skill rather than a character.

I think we may be at odds with terminology. I usually take SA to mean an extra. Anything more (dialogue OR significant action) I thought was referred to as a "featured" role. Perhaps we could look at this way. If you were auditioned and cast, you're role has been deemed IMDB eligible by the production. If you have been "placed" in the production without audition (exceptions being specific physical things and of course if you're cast on the strength of previous work) it's an extra role, and would not be IMDB-eligible.

I don't like snobbishness (sp?) in the industry, but I do think that IMDB was not intended as a self-promotion tool, hence the introduction of IMDB Resume.

All intelligent points, Mark. As far as I understand it, the option to 'update' the cast listing of a specific production asks that 'specific errors or omissions' can be reported to the IMDB managers. Given that there may be some valid reason for 'error' or 'omission' (I, for example, added myself to a listing that was not fully completed by the production company I worked for after I was asked to do this on their behalf, as they clearly felt their time was precious), new credits can be added to the database.

But IMDB do state that they will check any such update before they allow it to be broadcast. I have no idea what this means they do in practice, although I have always assumed they would need to get in contact with the production company and confirm the participation of the actor involved in the stated part. They do seem to imply that they will vet the accuracy of information they receive. If that's the case, then the question of whether a supporting artist warrants a credit etc. is surely at the discretion of the production company. And who can argue with that?

Although I only started this thread in over excitment at being on IMDB, it seems some people are getting annoyed by extrasand imdb etc.

Sorry, wish I'd never started it now!

Well, maybe, although I think the question has been settled now, and some interesting points about how IMDB works as a tool and reference point have been raised and cleared up, so that's all to the good.

They don't check each update. Unless you say you starred in a blockbuster, they don't the time to check with small companies all over the world. Trust me, I've seen some DODGY credits.
