What vaulable life lessons has everyone learnt?

I am so interested..... we are in a profession that mkaes us so self aware....

Go with your instincts, because it always impresses people.

I have to disagree with Alan, going with my instincts had seriously unimpressed people on a few occassions! But I still think you should go with your instincts...

I have learnt from watching people around me that all the hard work and talent in the world can not guarentee a successful career.

Never trust anyone to do things on the days they say they will.

(This was an official missive on behalf of the Cynical Actors Association).

I've learnt to listen over the years. Taken me a while.
A cynical actor once said "acting is all about total sincerity. And if you can fake that you've got it made!"

Feargus,

Sometimes a good smile can cost thousands.. if you decide to get your teeth fixed!!! the dentists bill can be exorbitant.

Please excuse me- I am rejoicing as I seem to be developing a social life- ( what can I do to stop this???)and i have had too much coffee....

Well the new boss here (a bit of a civil servant type to me rather than a go ahead life grabber) oranised a coffee machine demo this morning to see if we liked the coffee. It was very nice but if we want to use it we might have to pay for it. I kid you not, there's just been an email sent round - this is part of it:
- Do you like the coffee and the way the system works?
- If you do, how many cups a week on average do you think you'd consume (for yourself plus any visitors)?
- If you had to contribute to the cost for your personal consumption, and bearing in mind that the "cost" of a cup is difficult to define because it depends how many we order and on what basis we get the hardware but would be about 27-32p, would you be prepared to do so? And if so, on what basis:

(i) buy your own pods (from a central order)?
(ii) keep a record and pay per cup at the end of each month (trust system)?
(iii) chip in a set sum per week/month, accepting that it's an average?
I think the best way to buy would be a sort of loan contract where we would pay top whack (32p) per cup but with much less capital outlay. But to enable this we would need to guarantee to buy at least 2,400 pods per year - that's about 10-12 per working day.

Oh dear Lord help me to bend like a willow and not wish my time away or at least send me a really good long term acting contract and take me away from Bureaucrats!

Oh Lordy, hearing that is enough to put me off the stuff for Life! (and I never thought I'd hear myself say that) ;-0

YOur company makes too much money- thats why they get involved in things like that. They are bored... and a bit stupid.

Inform them that actors see coffee as a MEAL sometimes.

:)

I have learnt that writing extensively on forums is a vital displacement activity when you should be doing something else.
