Of course it will be awful - the original is fantastic and hollywood have no original ideas left - they are even talking about remaking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Poltergeist!
I've just had a very minor role in the remake of 1962 classic "The Day of the Triffids" for the BBC! If it's good enough for the likes of Vanessa Redgrave, Dougray Scott, Brian Cox, Ewan Bremner and Jason Priestly it's sure as hell good enough for me!!
So many actors forget the word "business" is a key component of "Show Business"! If any of us got offered 6 months work at roughly £500 a day for a Hollywood remake of an old classic feature film are you honestly expecting me to believe you'ld turn it down because you'ld rather be doing TIE or profit share theatre!! Behave!!
Once you've got a £50K cushion in your bank account you can do as much acting for the art as you want!
I only asked about paid or unpaid, because we already know that there are actors out there who are prepared to be exploited for no pay, and that's by small, almost unheard of companies. How great would be the temptation if it was a Hollywood production? The rot has set in at the bottom of our industry - how long before it worms its way to the top? And Forbes, I knew what your answer would be, and you didn't diappoint, I was just trying to tempt people with a different point of view out of hiding. ;op))
Course I'd accept a role in it, it would utterly ridicluous not to. I love the original, Aronofsky's making it (LOOOOOVED The Wrestler), it'd be a great experience, payed well, etc etc etc etc etc etc. However, as a film-lover I just can't see it being that great. The original has that dirty, 80's violent look about it. Robocop 2 isn't bad, 3 is garbage, because it lost all of that. Robocop is not a family film, it's core is in violence, a comment on how society can be at it's worst. I just think it's a pointless venture.
Last House on the Left and F13th are already made and ready to release. Child's Play is getting the remake treatment as well, though that one looks like it might be good.
and why should any of us be ashamed of getting paid to act!! I've seen plenty of theatre that, quite frankly, should have never have been staged too, but as long as it's artistic that makes it OK!
Profit share? Don't even get me started on that little puppy!! A friend of mine just finished a 3 week run on a profit share theatre thing. Full houses every night and he is the proud recipient of a cheque for £31 for a 5 week commitment!
We all have bills to pay so providing you haven't sold your soul to the devil in the process it's all good!! Do what you have to do to survive until that "paid" work you want comes along, that's what I say!
Nice to know I haven't dissappointed you Annie...yet! haha!
I also heard Footloose was being remade with the new wave of "American Teen Heartthrobs" cast (think that guy from High School Musical)
I'm not entirely against sequels but remakes should be a no-no, only so the originals can remain a favourite to carry on through the generations and new people can discover them.
No one will remember the original Chitty in 20 years time if they remake it .... so sad.
Leigh, you must be the only girl left who doesn't know the name Zac Efron...jeez even I know it!
It is sad to do remakes...but probably only because we know the originals. They are never as good as the originals.
BUT...chances are they will make money because people will go to see just how bad it's going to be. So from a 'business' point of view it'll be a winner!
And hell yes, if asked, I would be there in a heartbeat. But ask me what I think of 'War of the Worlds' the remake? IT SUCKED!!! It just doesn't have that 'something' that the cheesy original had, no matter how fab the FX you have or how big a star you have in it (in name only mind). And 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' remake won't be as good as the 1950's 'cheesy silver tin foil over everything' original either! But I sure would have said 'when do you want me to be there' if they'd asked me.
'Planet of the Apes' for goodness sake!
Let's face it...if they remade 'Plan 9 From Outer Space', by Ed wood -arguably the worst director of all time, it still wouldn't be as good as the original.
Who remembers the remake of 'The Blob'? I know I don't, but every time the original comes on tv I end up watching it!
There are no original ideas left, we all know that, but that's no excuse to murder classic films into remakes...why don't they remake crap films instead to try and make them better?
Or do what Simon Pegg did with 'Shaun of the Dead', hilarious. Even George Romero loves that one.
Oh, there's another one 'Dawn of the Dead' - not as good as the original. The original was making a statement about consumerism...the remake was just a gorefest. Fine, but call it something else!
haha thanks Antonio, I actually did know his name.
That typo should have read "think along the lines of that guy from....etc" as in - incorporating the whole wave of new teen "stars" that will be in the cast, rather than "I think it's that guy from ...."
You're right though, they are never as good as the originals, but it's a shame that love of the originals could possibly die out with a new generation.
