Hi Keith, I don't get the concept of a self-tape service. It's supposed to be self tape innit? Do they really produce something so much better than a simple camera / phone, cheap editing software that justifies the cost and delay?
BTW I must live quite near you (Hythe) so let me know if I can help at all.

Hi, Keith. As David says, it's what a "self tape" is all about. I've landed quite a few jobs through just using my iphone and movie maker on my pc (including a nice part in a feature film), so don't waste your money!
All the best.

If you really do mean self-tape, then you literally just have to record yourself on your phone. If you don't already have a mini tripod, you can pick them up in Wilko, Poundland, any gadget shop. If you feel you might be knocking out a lot of self-tapes over time (which you will), then I'd recommend getting a dedicated full-size tripod with cameraphone attachment - it should cost about £10-15 and they're very good.

Also, if you can record the whole thing in one take, you also don't need to edit your self-tapes. I've never edited a self-tape. I just record it (sometimes I might need several takes), and then upload it to Youtube as 'Unlisted' (which just means only those with a link can view the video), then I send the link to the casting agent. I've got plenty of jobs this way.

If, however, you mean a show reel, well... you can either wait till you've gather a few video clips of yourself acting and then put it together yourself in iMovie or Movie Maker; or you can pay a media company to do it for you (they charge maybe £100-250, depending on good you want it to look.
