Should We Scrap The Verification Process?

Eden Ford
Actor

Dear Subscribers and would-be Subscribers,
Further to the post entitled Verified Credits I have proposed to Mandy that they allow our input on this part of their otherwise very friendly and intuitive interface.
As this post has appeared Mandy are already showing their truth when they say, the website is built for its members and while no guarantees are given it could be that our decision here will be then implemented by the very people who we pay our subscriptions to, which surely affirms our decision to pay Mandy rather than their competitors.
My feelings on this: The system is not fit for purpose. Therefore serves only to frustrate members that are honest and uses a compliance procedure so porous that it is no way a deterrence to those that wish to deceive.
A furtherment of this is available on the Verified Credits string but what do you think?
Have you found an employer that has referenced your completely verified credits and chosen you over the actor they first chose? Conversely, have you after successfully completing a job, been told they are reshooting as they have found you to have been lying about the details of a student film you said you once did?
Nobody here is getting jobs based on their CV's, perhaps an audition, so you could waste someones five minutes or, and more importantly steal an audition from a better-qualified candidate but then when didn't that happen through nepotism, the friends' ring or the Me2 couch?
End the verification madness now.
Eden

Yes, some of my credits are from Russia and 10 years ago.

Mark, I don't see how but perhaps you can explain?

The advantage of a simple rating system is that it is useful for both parties and in everyone's interest to participate. Nightmare employers and performers can be easily identified as can all

Yes! Please scrap this Mandy. I'm not just seconding this, I'm 43rd-ing it!

All my verifications have been led by me, and is there anyone who feels that they lost out on a role because of the lack of verification on their profile?
I personally do not see the point of it.

Yes verification unecessary. Unfortunately I dont think Mandy include it for our benefit but to grow their contact list, so I question whether they'll remove it at our request.

Yes - scrap verification. It's unhelpful and unnecessary.

Maybe a link to a review or some photos or vids at the end of each credit so people can click on it to get a bit more info.

Yes! Scrap it, i been asked to verify a my only credit on TV and I have given up on my attempt as you only have to download the programme and see i have a credit on it, I have also been asked to verify a music Video i did before Christmas when i got the role thru Mandy along with several other actors< again you only have to download the Video to see its genuine and im sure any production company that wanted to do so would but as so many of you have allready said all they are interested in is you audition for the role they require you for and whether you have had sufficient training.

Vivienne. Mandy quite often comment on threads about the service, so I am sure they keep an eye on them.

A response to this one is long overdue.

Mandy?

Yes please scrap verification- it's confusing and pointless.

I'd just sent a query to Mandy asking why Employers weren't asked to enter their own details when they posted jobs - I had to complete a form about the Employer (in this case a University) or it would not be "fully integrated into their data base" then I noticed this thread.

It's been helpful in highlighting what Mandy is really trying to achieve with this weird system and how unprofessional it can make us look - I won't be verifying again.

Yes. Scrap it. I keep getting asked to verify a TV job I did for four series. Anyone can check it on Imdb along with all the rest of my TV and Film credits.

Yes - the verification system seems pointless - an unnecessary procedure which wouldn't be missed if removed.

just a thought....but this might not be about verifying your work. it might be about mandy collecting data. it might be useful for all kinds of things. marketing to those employers for one.

I am 53% verified I think. I have contacted all employers. Some of the verifications missing on Mandy have been verified but the verification then slipped from Mandy and for others I assume they were too busy. I am not going to bother employers who have already verified me before or chase up those who did not respond, I think it would just annoy them.

I may contact Mandy at some point to ask them to reinstate the lost verifications, but overall I think the verification system is not terribly worthwhile and creates unnecessary extra work. Chris Porro may be right that it is about data collection rather than certification.
