Spotlight Renewal - price change.

Ladies! Anyone else noticed that the price options have changed? There used to be 2 options. One price for submitting new book photo and a cheaper option for staying with your current photo. The cheaper option is now gone and its just one flat fee whether you submit a new photo or not. What are everyones thoughts on this?

I guess since they no longer charge to upload additional photo's online it'd be kind of wrong to then charge for the change of photo at renewal time. Makes sense to me I guess.

It will be interesting to see if they will continue with the book? I personally think they need to realise that very few CD's use this anymore and that it's a waste of paper, time and money.
I think being able to add up to 15 photos for free is great, but some notification that you could and that the fees would change as a result would have been nice. I only found out by accident that I didn't have to pay to add more photos.

I agree that the change in not having to pay the fees to upload wasn't well publicised, and I found it frustrating as I had paid to upload photos in what must have been the last week or two of paying upload submissions.

I can't say I've noticed about price changes as this is my first renewal.

Yeah they did keep it fairly quiet. It was my agent who told me! I guess they wanted to keep the money rolling in until the day the new no-fee was actually introduced. Otherwise people would have stopped paying & just waited until it happened. Makes sense business wise but they should have sent out a notice once it actually changed. Water under the bridge I suppose now though.

They're still charging a fair old whack to upload a showreel though. Shame when CCP has proved that it works when you don't.

But Spotlight still works out quite a bit cheaper than CCP unless you one of the lucky ones who got in at the beginning.

...No one uses the books anymore & listing rate should reflect this.
Should also have a monthly or quarterly payment option.

it's interesting to hear actors saying that nobody uses the books any more, but do we Know this, or are we just assuming because we think it makes sense?

Anyone know any agents/CDS out there and their opinions?

Just thought I'd let you know that I know for definite that the books are still used. Had a conversation about it just the other day with the people I know who use them. They'd had their latest one on Presenters just delivered. Print is so expensive to produce, Spotlight wouldn't keep printing them if they weren't used.

...from what casting directors have informed me I've met recently.
Also gleened from my own experience as an agent in central London.
My statement is based on factual evidence, not assumption.
The main casting agencies cast from applications submitted online by artists rep/own representation either via The Spotlight link or direct.
It's about time this reality is accepted
by all parties concerned that books are rarely used in today's business environment & this fact is reflected
in a rate reduction for the Spotlight entry.

Unfortunately there was no price reduction though. The price stayed the same for renewal. The cheaper option for using the same photo was simply taken away. Although we are now able to upload up to 15 photos for free. Well technically it's not free as it's part of our subscription fee now. But I do agree that such a small percentage use the book that it should be made redundant. Think of the paper that would be saved!

Does anyone know what the latest date is for payment on spotlight? I sent a cheque the first week of May last year and I want to leave it until the last minute to pay!

I asked about spreading payment, and they told me it all had to be paid by 1st May - I could spread payment out up until then. The alternative I was offered was to forgo being in the book this year and pay £187 in October to go in the 2010 edition, but retain my online presence. Effectively it means you're paying £50 to stay online, but they won't let you miss more than 1 year in the book.

So Annie, Spotlight have confirmed to you that in 2010 the price will go up to £187!?? Yikes!
Julia you mentioned yours is around £200? Are you in 2 areas on Spotlight? Actor/Presenter or Actor/Dancer? Cause I am not paying that much for Spotlight. Don't know about all of you but £187 is a quite a price hike!

Sorry Sophia, that's not what I meant!! I should have explained that they were offering to keep my online page for £50 but I would have to pay the £137 in October to go into next year's book. Sorry, I didn't make it obvious and you jumped to a very obvious conclusion - sozz!!

Phew! That's good to hear.....I was gonna start saving now for next year! Wohoo - glad it's not going to increase to that much. Thanks for clearing that up! ;o) Wonder if we could ALL opt to not be in the book and just pay £50 a year to be online? Be nice wouldn't it!?

It so would be nice, but Spotlight's income would drop by almost 2/3rds if they did that. They have to have time to work out how they can still make loads of money out of us before they offer that as an option. LOL!
