Just out of interest - does anyone tweet?

I started a while ago but cannot seem to get any followers - it may be that i am just sad, dull and boring or posting rubbish tweets.

If any of you can give me some ideas and how successful you are - it would be great.

Ta!

hi,

I've been on Twitter for 5 months and have over 200 followers. It is the best networking tool going.

However, Twitter isn't only about numbers (although obviously if your number is growing you're doing something right), if you only want numbers there is software for that but you'll end up with a bunch of followers who are not interested in what you say.

It really is about growing a quality network and this takes time and effort and being consistent (infact, I would program part of your day, maybe 15 or 20 minutes to doing Twitter, more if you simply enjoy it). Twitter is very much about "getting out what you put in". Engagement is very important too, aswell as sharing your best links and generally making yourself useful to your community. Also, taking the time to comment on popular blogs has a very positive effect, as people [or "tweeps" :-)] can see that you're serious and not going to fill their timeline with waffle.

Take a moment to work out your goals on Twitter, for me, it is entertainment and information plus meeting people I might want to collaborate with in the future.

If you want to follow me (generally I follow back), my profile is @eJamesDevereaux.

Hope that helps, James.

Hi John

Twitter is quite a laugh, but you have to find the right people to follow. I don't follow that many celebs - as someone mentioned they tend to tweet drivel. And they won't reply to you anyway. Although I now have a couple following me (not sure why....):-) I like amusing tweets and news - current affairs and entertainment. Not "I am having a coffee in starbucks.. blah blah.." or suchlike. You will work out eventually the right people to follow and those to unfollow.

One thing: why is your profile private though? Unlike Facebook, Twitter is not as good if you have a private profile. That's one of the reasons you probably only have a few followers - as the only people who can read your tweets at the moment are your few followers - and those followers cannot re-tweet your comments as you have a locked/private profile. Re-tweeting is a great way to get more followers! Obviously if you have a public profile which I think is better, you have to use discetion about what you say, so as to not give away all private information, but its pretty safe. Most intelligent people on their are pretty savvy, and tweet without giving out their phone number etc in a comment.
Enjoy J x

I agree with the rest of the guys and gals - it is what you make it. I've not been on it for long but certainly see the networking opportunities! On that note, I'll see if I can find you so you have another person reading your Tweets!
Great job on Corrie, by the way. I've been raving about it to anyone that'll listen!

It is what you make it and who you follow! Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan are brilliant. I use it for the amusement factor more than anything but on a serious note it is good for networking too! I'm palsey and occassionally funny ;)

I'm a bit slow to catch on to this thread, and the whole potential of Twitter, but I'm trying to catch up!

I'm @cazdarkly (slightly tenuous Bergman homage!) and I'll try to go back through these messages and add you all.

Wow this thread IS old! I don't know it it'll matter me saying this now, but if you're more likely to use a facebook fanpage to promote yourself there's a way of linking the two. All my fb fanpage updates are also published on twitter :)

My fb page is: facebook.com/catvandortfanpage

And my twitter is: twitter.com/catvandort

I haven't quite mastered the latter, but I will add all you recent posters and would appreciate it if you could do the same.

Cheers guys :)

hi
well I have been on it,on and off so to speak (originally as MrS and now MrS007),it is yet another way of expressing yourself , marketing your self etc.
I have fits and starts and try to vary my content but yes (eventually like any other site? ,except CCP of course slobber slobber)it gets boring.
But you never know who is watching/listening
and what can be fun (sad I know ) is how all these sites eg facebook/myspace/twitter link up
or get yourself a fishing rod ?
cheers
Daniel

Fan page? Wow!! In my dreams... ;P I don't think I could cope with the post-modern, nihilistic emptiness that my fan page would end up being a metaphor for!! :)

I'm on it and use it as my main networking tool.

I've booked work through it. Mainly by responding to other people and seeing what I can do to help them. It's never about what can you do for me.

As for what I Tweet, I share news, links that interest me, but I also share the difficult questions that we all face from time to time.

I do follow some well known actors and have struck up useful, interesting dialogues with some of them. Understandably they won't reply to "OMG you're fantastic! I want your babies!" type Tweets but they do respond to messages. And can provide useful advice.

I do keep Twitter professional rather than social. And make it clear you're an actor so that people know when they look at your profile. And enjoy.

I'm @colinjappleby on there and if people add me, say Hi and I'll generally follow back.

Colin
