Just out of interest - does anyone tweet?

I started a while ago but cannot seem to get any followers - it may be that i am just sad, dull and boring or posting rubbish tweets.

If any of you can give me some ideas and how successful you are - it would be great.

Ta!

Hello!

Yea I find it great for networking, you have to spend some time with it at the beginning in order to really benefit from it.

I'm @DaveBibby if anyone is interested.

I also have a Facebook Fanpage that I upload old interviews, reviews and photos to. That's more for my comedy than my acting though. x

Twitter is a great networking tool, but it makes people behave in very strange ways.

For example, before Twitter, did we all wish all our friends a happy valentines day?? I didn't. But this year, round-valentines-tweets all day.

It has also led to the strange development of people tweeting as if they were already famous, i.e. "hey guys, big news coming soon!". It seems that this very public arena has created a compulsion for some people to make certain the world thinks that they are constantly busy and happy, via the medium of tweet. Also, I'll never understand why people tweet about auditions, or RT when their @name comes up. Barmy stuff.

Yes, it can be a bit cringey sometimes, but I think it's quite nice to be able to say "Well done" if someone's got a part or a casting or if people need encouragement. Which, let's face it, is most of the time!! And I suppose people like to show that they are being proactive and keeping busy etc.. etc.. I quite like that I can support other actors projects through it as well. But yes, I'm sure I'm guilty of the "Just got my sides and am formulating a Stanislavsky approach to my latset Grattan catalogue shoot which may or may not be directed by Minghella" style of tweet! :)

To add to me mini-rant, it being Friday 'n' all, I cannot stand people who RT their own #FF's (Follow Friday for the unitiated).

I am serene and calm, but will explain why I feel this way. If someone re-tweets every post with their @name, compliments, #FF's etc, to me it is the electronic equivalent of someone coming up to you after a film/play with a compliment, and following happening:

Complimenter: "Such a great performance, you really were fantastic. Congrats."

Tweeter: "Thanks, glad you enjoyed it." (Tweeter then see random strangers in foyer and grabs one). "Wait, can you just repeat that compliment to this complete stranger please?"

Complimenter: "What? Well, no, it was kinda personal for you."

Tweeter: "Sure, sure, but if you could just...no? Ahhh, never mind I'll do it myself, right what they said was X Y Z......."

Maybe it's just me, but I find it kinda weird. I suppose I think if you wouldn't do it in real life, you shouldn't do it on Twitter, but people obviously don't feel that way.

"if you wouldn't do it in real life, you shouldn't do it on Twitter" is a brilliant, succinct summary.
A very tall (now highly respected) friend wrote (in The Guardian): "The best communicative use of the Internet is between those who already know each other, not between those who have never met face-to-face. It takes physical contact over a long time for human beings to bond; but once bonded, the internet can be an extraordinary facilitator."

that dont cut it for me sir if you wouldnt do something in real life why would you do it on twitter theres a big world out there this is what i think ppl should get there heads out of twittering start saying good morning to a stranger who will remain a stranger until you introduce yourself the world would be so much nicer if we spoke to each other in real life as the song says imagine all the ppl john lennon

I set up an account about a year ago, but only started to use it recently - I was actually inspired to give it a go by this thread! I'm slowly getting the hang of it and starting to tweet and follow etc. I've already started a little project with a new theatre company I met there so it may become a useful networking resource. I'll add everyone on here :)
