Unpaid Offers
I have started to get loads of offers of unpaid work which I hardly got at all before. Has something changed in the formatting so that it looks as if I would be up for unpaid work because I have only described myself as accepting paid work only.
Mandy - the site that keeps on giving.
I receive lots of unpaid or student films jobs.
I am retired on medical grounds & can’t afford unpaid jobs.
Most of the jobs are for youngsters only & I am 61 years old & most of the time I don’t fell into that criteria.
Mu offers are for my age range. I just get fed up replying that I don't do unpaid work. There should be some mechanism that snows that information on our profiles.
I have started getting these too and I am sure I have stated otherwise.
I would be ungrateful if don’t thanks to Samantha from Mandy’s team.
I emailed Mandy’s team about not finding a jobs & Samantha called me and found some jobs for me & I got one job.
Thanks to Samantha.
I would be much much happy to help the young directors & young casting team to keep myself updated with new technologies & talents but I would expect some monetary incentives towards it.
I am regularly seeing 'No Pay' jobs in my feed. I usually Tweet at Mandy about them (copying in Backstage). It's a pain and I always tell them to vet the listings - and bring back the 'Report This Job' button! They sometimes reply but I think they're fed up with me by now. They did once say the job was there because *one* of the roles for that job WAS paid - but it was outside my age range and gender(!!) so why would it be in my feed in the first place??? I really REALLY wish I could look at the listing for Jan/Feb '22 and compare them to this year's, but you can't go back further than Jan 1st this year :(
Now why on earth have I come up as a 'Private User'??
AND why are we seeing more 'jobs' offering £30 or £50?
I find it interesting some of the work that comes in my inbox, be it paid or unpaid. It appears, that the system doesn't care what is being looked for, as I keep getting job offers for actresses, although I am all in favour of equality, if the client specifies he wants a woman, I'm afraid I'll have a hard time to meet those prerequisites, even if I put on high heels and a thong.
Not part of this thread but, I posted something on General Chat under the title Self-Tape but it hasn't been put up. Not sure if they're going to allow it. So much for being unmonitored. Basically, I said that there was a great film I'ld love to have gone for but they wanted a self-tape before whittling down possible applicants by looking at showreels etc. I applied saying I don't do self-tapes unless I've been selected to do so but sent them instead a showreel. I didn't mention any names, I wasn't rude about it in my post. Ooh, the MPs are on the prowl. Unless of course, they're delaying my post. I'll let you know. It's a bit exciting all this Le Carre stuff.

Dear Toni, Years ago, a showreel, was what sold you along with your CV which had all the info they needed.
I don't know, if casting directors etc. are too lazy to read or what, but everyone seems to want a self-tape. On the odd occasion, I can understand it, if they are looking for something special, e.g. can you speak in a monotonous robotic voice, or a certain accent. But this is usually covered in your CV anyway, so you should've been shortlisted and then fight to win. Not the other way round.
It's a bit like blaming actors for movies being a flop, when it is the adaptation of a book that was totally BLEGH.
- I remember reading THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES which was published in the 50's, and wrote to one of the studios and recommended they make it into a film.
They buggered it up by trying to 'modernize' it, causing it to lose a great deal of its LE CARRÉ suspense.
Now that you've told us about your 'pending post', we shall be waiting for it with JOHN LE CARRÉ bated breath.
I had a really great in-person call-back audition yesterday off the back of a self tape, but they did contact me first. It wasn’t a general call out to all and sundry.
They did post it so that’s something.
Maybe we PUSHED them like they did HUMPTY DUMPTY?
