Not sure if I'm missing something here but can anyone tell me why viewings aren't in date order? There doesn't seem to be any logic to their order.
Cheers

Hi Toni,

You can sort the list by clicking on "last viewed you" at the top of the list.

Actually, I've noticed a thing: I used to get viewed by most of the jobs I submitted for (I'd say about 90% viewed me), but in the last two months that's gone way down - now I'd say only about 30% are viewing me. I've not changed anything - wondering if it's the quality of the work coming through to this site, but I sometimes think that CD's of commercials in particular put the word out to CCP, etc but never take these applications seriously, and only really ask to see people from agents they already know. Anyway, that's the way it goes - so you just keep having to plug away.

Hi Samantha, I think you're right re viewings. Not sure if my agent's getting them but will ask her when we speak next.
Meanwhile, we just keep on plodding :-))

Good aternoon Sam, and others. Funny you should mention this, re wondering if casting d's do actually look at this sites sub's. I would love to hear from anyone on this site who has indeed managed to secure one of the "bigger offerings" that you see from time to time. i.e the £3,4000 plus commercials etc. If nothing else it would serve as a nice boost to the rest of us, and give some reason for carrying on ! and go towards building confidence in such sites as this.
Cheers chums, and all the bst as always.

Hey Kevin how are you doing? This is probably not quite the answer you were looking for but I DO think it is of interest! Last week I completed the filming of the Green Man Soup advert that was on this site about 2 weeks ago.....but I never even got viewed here!!! Instead, I ALSO applied via another web-site which did NOT say that the employers' details were "withheld at company's request" ! FAR FROM IT ! I had the personal name and e-mail address of the CD involved and so contacted them directly! Today I notice that there are many jobs being advertised here on CCP for Xmas where again the employers' details are being kept secret for some reason! WHY?!! The same jobs are being advertised fully and publicly on the Equity web-site with the company's own web-site attached as a link and which contains ALL the contact details and touring arrangements therein! Why must users of CCP be exclusively kept in the dark I wonder?

Editorial Comment At Casting Call Pro we work very closely with hundreds of production companies and casting directors. One option available to the more established production companies is the ability to withhold the company name when posting a casting. This can not be done automatically and can only be done with the express permission of our castings manager and we try to use this sparing. I can confirm that all the 'withheld' companies are genuine employers with a credible track record.

The feature was introduced about 6 months ago in response to feedback from casting directors who were receiving inappropriate submissions from actors who googled the production company name and called their main switch board.

Well, fancy that! Today submitted myself for an ad (paying in four figures!) via another casting site, although my feelings re: CD's on this site are exactly the same - and guess what? Got a casting for it tomorrow! So maybe I should just eat my words because sometimes they DO actually look at submissions from these sites. The casting actually came to me via my agent, but I'm sure it's from the submission I made, rather than them (I'll ask them another time). So, keep going everyone; sometimes it works!

So why am I paying CPC twenty quid a month for them to withold vital information on jobs?
I am also restricted by this silly playing age thing.
What other casting websites are recommended? Maybe I should try a few others as well as this one.

Des, I think it is ESSENTIAL that you join other web-sites as well as this one! Although I picked up a nice, unexpected £400 from a corporate job advertised here on Monday morning this week, your real, well-paid casting jobs do lie elsewhere. CCP is made up mostly of lo/no pay or small commercial type jobs as far as I can see and I've been a member since 2003. It IS a really excellent WEB-SITE, beautifully put together and maintained and very user-friendly, but after several telephone discussions with the good people who run CCP I am in no doubt that the site is run by energetic young business entrepreneurs with NO experience or knowledge of what actors really want /need! Take this damned annoying "playing age" fiasco for instance! They've changed the criteria now for what someone's playing age can be to make it more closely resemble the age you LOOK like; mine is down as 35. But NONE of us has a specific playing range of JUST a set 12 month period! I am not eligible to ONLY play 35 year olds, I have an "Equity playing range of 26-40". What CCP could really do with is a Forbes/Blake/Tracey/Alan Brent type character in their midst to make sure the actor's viewpoint is also represented at the same time and not just worry about offending prospective employers all the time. This would also tackle the incredible situation for instance of not being allowed to join Voicespro.com, a sister site, because they think that actors and voice-over artists are totally separate and never the twain shall meet! Grrrr!

Editorial Comment Paid jobs
Over the last 30 days Casting Call Pro has listed 430 jobs opportunities, of which 209 were paid and 33 were low paid.

The remainder were unpaid positions, but please remember unlike other services, you don't need to be a premium member to apply for any of the unpaid roles.

Playing age
The new "Playing Age" is not intended to cover the full scope of an actor's playing range, rather the playing age is designed to say which age you are most comfortable playing and the age you are most likely to be cast as.

Research we've carried out suggests age ranges are not as useful to casting directors as you may initially think. Importantly we've found that given the opportunity over 80% of actors specify the maximum allowed age range rather than specify an age range which matches their looks and talents. As such in our system we ask actors to provide us with a single playing age around which casting directors can make age-range based judgements.

To show you why playing age ranges simply don't work, consider the case of a casting director seeking a 35 year old doctor who then gives us a brief with a casting range of 30 to 40. In a spotlight system where the average actor has specified a 10 year playing range, this means you'll have actors with ranges of 20 to 30 who feel they should be able to apply and also actors with ranges of 40 to 50 who feel they should apply. As a result the casting director ends up with applications from both 20 year olds and 50 year olds - totally inappropriate for the role.

Our new system puts the decision firmly in the hands of the casting director - you specify your playing age and if you fall within the playing age specified by the casting director you'll be able to apply for the role. In our system casting directors only receive applications from people with a playing age between 30 and 40, exactly as requested in the original brief.

Remember your playing age isn't fixed, you can update it at any time, just remember it takes 24 hours for these changes to be processed.

The voices thing annoyed me too - there seems to be a lot of illogical thinking here. I do think the site is one of the best but these quibbles really grate - esp the acting age. I've spoken to the CCP people and emailed them but there seems to be no way forward. Never mind, I've had some really good jobs from the site but I would agree, join other sites too.

Yes, I would also like to know why we cannot know who we are applying to.
Can we please be told?

I just rang up the co. I mentioned in my earlier posting and they say that it is CCP who demand their identity is kept secret, not them, as "unsuitable" clients keep applying for certain jobs ie according to CCP!

I know what you mean! Surely CCP have strict vetting procedures for people who are able to apply for professional jobs in the first place?

Everything mentioned here annoys me too! Typically, if my playing age is set as 24 (my real age) then the castings either end at 23 or start at 25. Another one (although correct me if I'm wrong?) is that there's not a search engine in the past submissions area - to see if you've applied to someone before etc (does that make sense?). And as for knowing who we're applying to - it seems absolutely necessary?! I'm slightly baffled by that! Xx

I'm now cross, too! I didn't know about the voices thing and I've spent a lot of money and done a considerable amount of hard work this year with professional v/o producers to produce a really good voice reel - and EVERY voice producer/advertising exec says they prefer to use ACTORS for voiceovers - there should be no distinction. Voiceover work is a skill that actors should have and we shouldn't be denied work especially if those in the business want us. I'll be on the case... As for playing age, I think that's always been an issue with castings of all sorts from time immemorium - what is a 42 year old Mum supposed to look like? What is a 17 year old Goth supposed to look like? It always has been and always will be subjective...

Editorial Comment Voices Pro
We actually run a number of sites, Casting Call Pro, Singers Pro, Dancers Pro, Model Jobs Pro and Voices Pro.

You are welcome to join any one of these services (if you meet the minimum membership requirements) but we don't allow users to register on more than one site.

Whilst we recognize you might be both a talented voice over artist and a talented actor we ask that you register on the site most suited to your immediate needs.

If you would rather work as an actor please join CCP, if you would rather work as a voice over artist please join Voices Pro. If you are unsure of which to join we'd suggest CCP as it's a lot more active at the moment.

Hi Samantha
Re what someone looks like at a particular age - you've only got to watch 10 years younger to see how people regard age and looks :-))

Yes Richard I am an Equity member and I have noticed that the same jobs that appear on CCP with the company directors name withheld, will will also appear on the Equity website but with the company name clearly stated.

I find the situation of the company's name being withheld rather creepy as I like to know who I'm applying to. So I simply don't apply for jobs through CCP if the company's name is withheld. I just checked to see if it appears on the Equity website and apply through that website. Or if its a corporate or commercial that I might be right for I simply ask my agent if he knows who the casting director/companies is, and then I get my agent to put me up for it via spotlight if he has not already done so.

I do agree that that CCP is a excellent WEB-SITE, beautifully put together and maintained and very user-friendly, and wish that Equity website was as user friendly and easy to navigate. But I do have to say that I prefer Equity's policy of only advertising paid jobs and crediting actors with the intelligence to only apply for things that they are suitable for.
I suspect as CCP are a commercial company (though a very nice friendly bunch of lads and lass) that they are not that stringent in their system of vetting professional actors. So in order to maintain a good relationship with some of the casting directors and companies who have advertised here CCP choose to withhold some details of the job adverts.

I can perfectly understand where CCP are coming from and why they have implemented this policy. So if we don't like it possibly the only thing to do is vote with our feet and not subscribe to CCP.

Though I'm sad to say I love this website so much and in particular the green room only severe financial difficulties would drive me to leave. Equity have just launched their own forum it's quite similar in its layout to stage talk and relatively easy-to-use. But I think it will be a year or two before it is as lively in its discussions as CCP green room and also you don't get to see photos and CV of the people who post like you doing here. Being a very nosy person I love to be able to see the photos and CVs of the chatty people who post in this green room.

Anyway I suppose what I'm trying to say is I would definitely not restrict myself to only subscribing to one job information service. Equity's job information service is included in the price of your Equity fee so you do not incur any additional cost for using it. I also subscribe on and off to Ron O'Brien Castcall this is not a website but an e-mail casting information service. Ron is quite strict in his criteria for actors who subscribe so again does not have the need to withhold any information.
Well that's my rambling tuppence worth for today. :-)

Cheers
Tracey
