I've just seen that Elisabeth Sladen who played Sarah Jane in Dr Who and the Sarah Jane Adventures has died. So sad. I remember her in the 70s Dr Who and in the more recent ones.
As a Dr Who fan since the 70's myself, I too am very saddened by her death, her relationship with Tom Baker's Dr in the series was perfect at a time when the series was at it's best!
LIS SLADEN (1948-2011)
I am very very saddened to hear the news of Doctor Who star Lis Sladen's death from cancer on the morning of 19th April. When I was a child one of the main reasons I decided I wanted to became a professional actor was through the excitement of adventures that the Doctor and Sarah-Jane had. I though that would be a fantastic job for anyone!! I was very lucky to have met her three times over the years; once at the 20th anniversary of Dr. Who celebrations in Longleat when I was 15; she was so down to earth and warm and friendly and said ''hi'' to me if she caught sight of me around the grounds. The next time was many years later in 2000 at a stamp fair at Earls Court; she told me "what took you so long?'', as I reminded her of the 1983 Longleat. Lis said 'Come to the next Convention in Manchester'; I did as i was told and presented her with a framed picture I took of her all those years ago at Longleat house. She introduced me to her daughter Sadie who was accompanying her. She was my childhood hero and was just as wonderful in real life. I always dreamed of acting with her and sadly that will never happen now.
She was the best Dr Who companion, very cute and lovely too.
A real shame and a real loss.

She will be missed by all long term Doctor Who fans. She was always held in extremely high regard by everyone who watched the programme, and was a very talented actor. She retired, I believe, from the industry for a time in order to bring up her daughter, but had recently had a great career resurgence with 'Sarah Jane Adventures' thanks, in large part, to Russ T Davies's appreciation for the brilliant memories her work had generated in *his* youth. What a sad loss to the profession.
Such a shame to hear the news. I had the privilege of meeting Liz on a couple of occasions over the years, such a lovely warm generous person and a fantastic actress. Very sad that she has gone.
The Ultimate Who girl - and we have some wonderful adventures to re-live for years to come. Thanks you Sarah Jane Smith/ Lis Sladen - we will miss you! xxxxx
