BIS Employment Agency Standards... Shutting down?

The government led by BIS Minister Jo Swinson, is now considering removing all existing regulations governing employment agencies.

I have now had a response from the government, to my Freedom of information (FOI) request.

BIS Employment Agency Standards (EAS) have now all but closed down. All that is left out of a staff originally of 29, is just 3 staff. Only 2 inspectors and 1 secretary/administrator.

Expect more and more crooked agencies in the entertainments industry!

This is what I have e-mailed to 'The Stage' editor today:

Hi Brian,

I know you have done a tremendous amount of articles on the subject of poor regulation of agencies in our industry - this year...

I was waiting until today, before sending this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03k55jj/The_Legalizer_Episode_1/

You can watch the video of this programme that was broadcast this morning... Perhaps you can now squeeze in yet another article?

Now BIS Minister Jo Swanson has all but closed down Employment Agency Standards (BIS EAS). See attached. Out of a staff originally of 29, only 3 are left. All the other staff have been removed under the pretext - of that they are better used elsewhere. A great wheeze by the Minister!

This may be the first time that I agree with the Minister. They served absolutely no purpose within BIS EAS and now it is being exported to HMRC NMW. No doubt they will do the same there - nothing!

Everybody refers to those " agencies that continue to scam people and rip them off " But according to Minister Jo Swinson such tricksters do NOT exist! There has never been (at least for 16 years) any evidence (according to BIS EAS) sufficient enough, for the government to take court action against a crooked company - pretending to help find youngsters - to get work in the acting and modelling sectors.

There has never been a prosecution against those charging fees, prior to providing paid work. What an utter disgrace. The government recently announced that no other industry should be exposed to such scams. I wonder why?

Yet no one has been willing to blow the whistle? Sixteen years... How long can this be kept secret from the public??? No one at the BBC has yet told the public - the real truth. Again, I wonder why?

Either the law needs changing or the government are deliberately ignoring the evidence provided.

Which is it???

For those who are interested in who the actual three members of BIS EAS staff are left, out of the original twenty nine, here is a group photo of them...
