Hello! If you're an actor based in South Wales then read on...

Cardiff Fringe Theatre Festival
20th - 25th June 2016

2016 is the very first year of the Cardiff Fringe Theatre Festival. It will present work across seven venues from ten of the most exciting theatre companies in the South West. Come and witness history being made as we pour fuel on the fire of Cardiff’s cultural explosion.

The host venues are Ten Feet Tall, Chapter Arts Centre, Little Man Coffee Co., AJ’s Coffee House, Jacob’s Market, Dempseys and CF24 Project.

The name of the game is variety, so expect selections from both the most raw and most sophisticated ends of the theatrical spectrum. Plenty of new writing is being premiered alongside the more established work of award-winning playwrights like Barney Norris and David Greig.

A key principle of the fringe is to provide high quality affordable entertainment, so although the ticket prices vary depending on the piece, the average ticket price is £5.

"There's plenty of high end theatre on offer in Cardiff, but we wanted to offer something a bit more gritty and affordable. We took inspiration from the Edinburgh Fringe, where pretty much every pub, coffee shop and venue is transformed into a performance space. Hopefully that'll be Cardiff one day." - Joe Burke, Venue Liaison Officer, Cardiff Fringe Team.

Aaaaaand we're back!

Cardiff Fringe Theatre Festival 2017
15th-22nd July

After a first year where audience numbers exceeded all expectations, the festival is back to serve a second helping of fringe theatre to Wales’ capital. This year will be bigger and better, with a programme of 31 performances taking place across 12 venues.

“We are so excited about the programme we have put together. After last year’s pilot, we were flooded with applications from amazing companies wanting to perform in the festival - 49 to be exact! Most important in our selection process was finding acts that work in our festival venues - many of which are not theatres, but places built for socialising. We want to bring out the social side of the theatre-going experience. We’ve put together an eclectic mix - there really is something for everyone.” - Joe Burke, Companies/Artists Co-ordinator, CFTF

The average ticket price is £5.30, meaning you can still afford a beer or two. And for those more interested in boos than booze, family-friendly shows have been scheduled in the daytimes at weekends. Back by popular demand is the Scratch Night and and Poetry Night, both of which are free. New for this year are a range of free workshops by theatre professionals.

The best of homegrown talent will be showcased, with 60% of the acts being local. The remainder is made up of companies that audiences would otherwise have to travel to see. The festival’s ability to attract these acts is testament to Cardiff’s growing reputation as a cultural hub.
