Auditions

I really enjoy the audition process, I do genuinely! and more often than not it leads to new work with new clients which is great. My real frustration is when you record, edit and create something you are proud of and a potential client never gives it a listen. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there.......?

No it's only you....:-)
Only kidding! Yep, it's really frustrating. Mind you what's almost worse is when you get shortlisted for something and they ask you to reaudition this time with specific direction, you do so and then....nothing...no acknowledgement, not even a 'sorry, we went with someone else'...That really annoys me. It's just rude!

I'm with you in enjoying the audition process. It's a cracking opportunity to see what "industry" are looking for, and to try out new styles and voices.

I've got to agree, it is very frustrating when your audition doesn't get listened to — 'I was perfect for that job' – right? But there must be hundreds of people applying for the jobs advertised on here. I'm sure the producers get fed up trawling through the auditions after a while. That doesn't explain why some jobs get re-advertised and labelled as 'URGENT' even when your original file hasn't been listed to. What's that all about? This is a tough industry but you learn to develop a tough skin. Keep optimistic fellow VO peeps and smile through the pain and rejection :-)

I'm not new to VP but never normally comment on Forums (although I do read them). However I read this and felt I had to comment. I agree with all the above but particularly with you Ruth about the rudeness! It's that I can't stand. I have had a lot of work through VP but also a lot of 'un-listened' to applications. I agree with Rob that there's hundreds of voiceovers for every one job out there but not even acknowledging a specifically asked for demo read is rude! Even more so if you're offering your time for FREE! It's just manners.
Anyway - rant over :)
Have a good weekend all!

Thanks for your comment, Gillian. Actually I am about to redo my reels as they are too long. I need to lop a minute off them so I can hold attention. I've been doing Gravy for The Brains Creating Amazing Showreels course and think I need to overhaul what I have and create some more!
