Public School Actors

.. So a new movie of 'Journey's End' has been greenlit by Warner Brothers according to today's Sunday Times newspaper (pg 17) after a dashing intervention by Andrew, the hereditary english monarchs son, suggesting in his letter this is a story that must be told again in film and considering the number of public school actors that are available to play the officer lead roles, would be an opportunity lost otherwise !

So my question is, can only actors who have attended public school have the talent/ability to play the role of an officer in a WW1 trench?

In a word NO!
In fact there were thousands of "Temporary Gentlemen" who fought as Officers in WW1. Promoted from the working class ranks because the losses were so high.

...There are plenty of working class actors who have the experience/training to play an officer! The article implies you have to attend Eton or Harrow in order to play one which is of course ridiculous! (btw, it was in yesterday's Sunday Times,pg 17 with the title,'Sherlock set for a toff life in the trenches'!
Will add a link if possible....
