Whe to quit acting

Daniel Brown
Actor

I've had these thoughts for a while and would like everyones thoughts please. I graduated in 2009 from The International School Of Screen Acting and have done a few short films and some theatre. But lately I just haven't had a passion for acting. I apply for roles on Casting Call Pro and don't care if I get an audition. I've even admitted to myself sometimes that I hate acting and i'm just drifting. Should I forget about acting?

Hi Daniel
This is a very tough business and can be soul-destroying especially if you don't feel 110% committed. Why not take some time out, do something else for a while and see if you miss acting? Maybe there's something else you could be doing in which your acting skills (empathy, communication, adaptability, etc) will be extremely useful. You might be much happier doing something else. Good luck. Hope you find a solution

The only thing that keeps us going is the passion for it, (it's certainly not the money)......If you've lost the passion then you should find where it has gone and head in that direction. As Caro says it might return, it often does! but why put yourself through the mill for something that you don't actually want 100% ? You don't have to be rich or glamorous or successful in business to have a great life, you just have to be happy and loved they are the important things in life. Get those bits right. Acting...comes second place to those.

Hey Daniel,

Sorry to hear you have lost the passion for acting. It is something you have to be passionate about. I agree with Caro and Nigel, Maybe you should try something new for a change. I guess we all get bored with the same thing everyday. After a while you may of missed the acting and want to come back to it. Good luck in your journey Daniel!

I've recently returned to acting after 12 years away, there is other life out there!:) But, as I said, I've returned, and, with a renewed passion for it and I believe that because I've taken time out and done some other things its given me a whole new perspective and added to my life skills. You may or may not want to come back to acting, but remember that the choice will always be there so you don't really have to 'forget about acting' but just focus your attention on something else for a while, which makes you feel good, and then see what happens. Good luck to you x

Thank you everyone for you kind words and support, I really feel in a more positive frame of mind. I think I will just take two weeks out of the acting game and recharge myself. It now feels foolish to throw my dream away when I've stuck at it this long.

The minute you book a holiday the work will flood in all for the time you are away. Sod's law. Enjoy your time out Daniel :)

Only you can make that decision - no one else's opinion is relevant.

Yeah you just need a break mate, in this industry it's about passion, I believe you also need to think in terms of small goals rather than big ones to keep yourself sane.

Hi Daniel,

All of the above. I took time out to be with my daughter and all that time even though i am so grateful I was able to do that, I was desperate to get back, although in the past there has been many a time I have just wanted to knock it on the head but just couldn't. It is entirely your decision, if you are not happy, recharge, book a holiday, take time out, get off the band wagon for a while, if you still feel the way you feel then do the right thing, only you can decide. It's hard work and you have to want it and feel it. It is all about passion and the drive.

Hope you get your mojo back or find something completely different to make you happy. Whatever it is Good Luck and be Happy, enjoy life, sometimes if you let it Acting can take over.

Best of Luck,

Caroline

Maybe standback Daniel and have a real look at it. Looking for a decent agent which takes time could be the answer. They can open doors. But yes have a break, put your talents to another use.
