I would like advice on what to read for a demo voice reel as I am very new to this and I am not sure how best to show my voice.

Merry Christmas Natalie.
There are various types of voice work, so your question is slightly difficult to answer. Your first port of call is going to be recording yourself. Read the back of paperback, copy a youtube ad, read the ingredients on your toothpaste, read a few children's poems, a page from your favourite book, a newspaper article... you get the picture.
now you need 2 things (well 4 if you include your ears). You need to listen back and pick which ones sound better. But more importantly, you need another set of ears to provide feedback. a friend, or a professional that can give you honest feedback.
Also very important: what do YOU want to do. that is your first recording. Is there something that you find easier than others? that you enjoy more?

no one can actually say to you, "this is what you need to pick". You need to listen to honest advice, but in the end, start with what you want to do. I started wanted to do animation. I ended up narrating documentaries. But I love telling stories in whatever form. I still do animation, but with narration, gears and wheels click into place.

Are you having fun? Are you enjoying what you are doing? If not. pick another style.

I hope the new year sees you behind a mic.
