Can you recommend a good EXTRAS agency?

Hi there,

I'm just about to finish a nice but boring office temp job and I'm looking for work. Can anyone recommend a good Extras agency or Actors temp agency please? I moved to London in November so I'm still quite new. Thank you!

All the best,
Kate.

Casting Collective (speak to Vicky, Laura, Beth or Alex), 2020 Casting (speak to Tara), Ray Knight(speak to Tony or Bruce), Mad Dog(speak to Tyler) and FAB Casting(speak to Lois). There are others, such as Guys and Dolls, Universal, Casting Network, but those are the ones getting the majority of big bookings. The top 5 cover about 80% of the jobs out there - then about 20 others are scrabbling around for the rest.

I'm registered with Mad Dog and regularly bump into extras from Casting Collective on set. They seem to be the main players :)

I'm with Casting Collective and Mad Dog, they both contact me regularly about jobs. Ray Knight are apparently very good as well.

I'd just like to say AVOID AVOID AVOID the London Extra Agency. I did put up a post about them, but it's been "modified" by CCP, but if you'd like some info on why to avoid them message me :)

The best agencies are: Mad Dog casting, Casting collective, Guys and Dolls, The Casting Network.
These get the most work.

Ray Knight and Mad Dog Casting, for sure. I know people who are with 2020 Casting also, because they get good feature film projects, like Mad Dog. Ray Knight are more TV-orientated but the best out there.

When do Mad Dog open their books?

I did apply back in April, but got an email saying they weren't taken anyone on at present.

I see Casting Collective are opening their books next month, so will be on stand by.

Hello,

Casting Central are in the office next door to mine. They are always super busy. The Lois that someone mentioned from FAB is based here now, they also have someone who is a casting director and a branch that is an agent so it might be worth talking to them about everything. They are straight talking ladies, not for the faint hearted.

Good luck with it all!!

What puts me off is the 'book fees'. I used to be an extra years ago and although I would love to do it again, I am not happy with the fees. Whatever they label them now as, they are still book fees (not to mention the percentage they also take). I have often tried with Ray Knight but am always told I am not what they are looking for at the moment.

yeah - Ray Knight, 2020, casting Collective, Mad Dog - and Universal Extras are the ones I am with. I have been doing that kinda work on and off for 20 years between 'proper' acting jobs - and it certainly pays. I just don't put it all on my CV. Met some lovely people on these jobs. Just about to go to register with The Casting Network too.....

I agree with all the above. I'm with Mad Dog, Casting Collective and also Phoenix who are Bristol & Cardiff based (do a lot with Casualty & Dr Who plus other TV jobs).

About Castin Central I can only say that they do not pay. I am waiting 10 months to have my money for two commercials.
And also they are very rood. That is my personal experience and some other people as well.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about this myth that extra work will 'hurt your chances' of being an actor. What will hurt your chances, is not getting out there and acting. Extra work is a great way to mingle with interesting people, as well as make contact with actors who are also doing this work, as well as film-makers, artists and other like-minded folk. And I've had two acting jobs through Mad Dog (my absolute favourite agency!), which has given me a more varied catalogue of work. And if you really don't want anyone to know you're an extra - don't tell anyone! Simples :)
