How to get a great Headshot

In the run up to the third annual CDA Casting Awards, celebrating the art of casting and honouring the work of the casting director, we have gathered the best tips from some of this year's nominees

Headshot Tips by Claire Catterson

  1. A good photograph is confident, warm with a true likeness and expression to the artist.
  2. The headshot should be a recent shot of the artist, head and shoulders etc. Avoid photoshop as casting directors / directors want to see the real you.
  3. Keep a neutral appearance
  4. 2 or 3 strong images is enough to give an indication of you and your personality.
  5. Consider your wardrobe / make up, avoid anything that could be distracting, keep things neutral and wear colours that complement you.
  6. Find out how much time at the session you have and how many photographs you will get out of it.
