Roxana
Paisley Book Festival

Roxana
Paisley Book Festival

  • Project Details
Seeking ONE ACTOR for “Roxana” by Laurie Motherwell.

A co-production with the Paisley Book Festival and Renfrewshire Leisure.

    Directed by Shilpa T-Hyland

EDIT: Only processing submissions from actors with a base in Scotland.

Wife, mistress, mother, opportunist, friend. The life of Roxana is as scandalous an adventure as you could find. Abandoned by her husband, she and her maid Amy forge forward to grapple with the world and its 18th century rules. In this provocative re-telling of Daniel Defoe’s morality tale, Roxana fights to take control of her narrative, her choices, and her fate but the voices of her past fight back, and her history is not easy to tell. Directed by Shilpa T-Hyland and written by Laurie Motherwell, Roxana is a co-production with Renfrewshire Leisure and the Paisley Book Festival and is made possible with support from Creative Scotland.

Production Dates: currently being negotiated in the context of ongoing restrictions related to COVID.

We are interested in seeing actors from a diverse range of ethnicities and backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ actors and are particularly keen to meet performers we haven’t seen before. Formal training is not vital if you can demonstrate at least three years of legitimate acting experience. Actors who are not currently represented by a formal agency are encouraged to submit themselves. Priority consideration will be given to actors with a base in Scotland.
