The Spiral Path
Mad Stallion Productions

  • Project Details
Mad Stallion Productions & KatAlyst Productions are currently collaborating on their next project, "The Spiral Path," by Andrew Sharpe. We are holding two days of R&D workshops for the piece, on the 29th and 30th April, in a central London studio, with a view to stage the work in London (theatre TBC) later this year/early next year, obviously depending on various circumstances. We're looking to cast two main roles for these R&D days, to help us continue our script development on the piece. At this stage, we're purely looking to cast the roles for the dates in April, but we will of course strongly consider those chosen at this stage, for the later, staged version of the piece, when we get to that point. We will be looking to arrange initial zoom calls with applicants who we're interested in seeing, just to hear you read and talk more about the project. We warmly welcome applicants representing all ethnicities and backgrounds.About the piece:Inspired by the tragic number of cyclists killed in London every year, The Spiral Path weaves a suite of hilariously dysfunctional narratives, a family in chaos, a best friend betrayed, against a backdrop of deep and lasting grief of a bereavement, and the brutal repression of sexual identity.“We are not going in circles; we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps.” ― Hermann Hesse, SiddharthaAbout the writer:Andrew has been writing for eight years, following a career as a lawyer spent witnessing traumatic bereavement, family breakdown, child abuse and violent crime, often with mental health consequences or causes. His writing fictionalises the injustices and heartbreak that all practitioners witness daily. Full length productions include Songs from a Ledge (with Amy Kakoura) (Old Joint Stock, Birmingham, 2014), Goodnight Polly Jones (Theatre N16, Balham, 2016), My Name is Cathy (Chapel Playhouse, Kings Cross, 2019), and several short plays, including the anthology Three Sharpe Shorts (Maltings Theatre, St Albans, 2019) which included Meet Me at the Nightingale, contained within the Spiral Path.Sections of the piece have already been professionally performed on stage (Cockpit Theatre and Stockwell Playhouse), via zoom during the last year and at various scratch nights around the South East, including The Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, all to great acclaim.
