    We’re looking for an ambitious and experienced Senior Buyer to join our team working within our Music & Film category on a 9 month Fixed Term Contract.This is a lead buying role in the Commercial team requiring broad leadership experience, responsible for translating the category strategy and overseeing its execution to deliver profitable growth for the ranges.Senior Buyers here at Sainsbury’s have the freedom and autonomy to succeed. From the outset, you’ll think quickly and act decisively. You’ll build strong relationships with suppliers, implement the category strategy to maximise sales and improve margins. The credibility to influence at a very senior level in the business is vital.As a Senior Buyer your responsibilities will include:Create and implement a customer driven strategic vision for their ranges in line with the category strategy agreed with the senior stakeholders with clearly defined and measurable initiativesDeliver the own brand proposition through product design, product briefs, sourcing and negotiation of exclusive propositions to differentiate us vs the marketLiaise with the Product Technologist in setting the quality criteria for own label products ensuring the optimal balance between quality and price is maintained focus on continuous improvement, customer reviews and customer returnsInfluence global brands on their product offer to build a credible curated customer propositionUsing knowledge of markets and suppliers, inform the category budget and create and implement trading plans to achieve category strategyManage pricing across category to achieve a competitive position without compromising profitabilityIn conjunction with the Senior Merchandiser, develop and implement joint business plans with suppliers in line with department strategy and set specific performance targets for suppliersLiaise with global suppliers and sourcing offices to identify the most cost-effective suppliers and to support overseas teams with own label product developmentAchieve optimum product cost through effective negotiation with suppliersDevelop a compelling promotional plan for the category, working cross-functionally with the Marketing and Digital teams to create compelling multi-channel marketing executionsMonitor market trends, competitor activity, price positioning and stock availability and work in partnership with Senior Merchandisers to react appropriately to maximise sales, profitability and market shareDevelop strategies to optimise value to the business through supply chain costs, stock values, availability, sales, margins and return on investmentLead and develop a high performing team. Motivating and develop the team to achieve more through coaching, succession planning and great career conversationsEmbracing change - taking a proactive approach to supporting adoption of new ways of working in Non-food and role modelling the Sainsbury’s Argos valuesPlay a pivotal role supporting the Buying Manager & Head of Department in key business cross functional projectsYour experience will include:Strong commercial awareness and previous buying experience, preferably within a non-food omni-channel environmentA passion for productKnowledge of systems and processes in a complex multi-channel environmentHigh degree of commercial acumenA knowledge and understanding of Legal, competition law, anti-bribery and corruption and Intellectual PropertyProven track record of delivery results to targets as an individual or within a teamAbility to identify market trends and opportunitiesWorking under pressure in a fast moving, dynamic retail environmentEmbracing changeStrong team management and leadership skillsImpressive negotiating and influencing skillsTravel between sites
