    Seeking a female Moroccan Darija speaker for a short artist film. The artist must speak Darija from the Fez/Casablanca region. You do not need to be a professionally trained voice over actor.



    Please note:

    Please DO NOT apply if your Darija is, for example, from Tangiers. Your Darija will be verified by a language expert from the region.



    Please DO NOT send me your CV, but submit a demo reel of your Darija accent, can be a few sentences or else, send me an existing recording/video of yours in which you speak in Darija.



    You DO NOT need to be a professional voice over actor and a phone recording would suffice.



    FILM SYNOPSIS

    The film features a group of Berber women who reside in a care home in a small town near Fez in Morocco. The film weaves in their stories with Moroccan human rights activist and poet, Rachida Madani’s poem, ‘Tales of a Severed Head.’



    WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN THE VOICE ARTIST:

    I am looking for a Moroccan female, a native Darija speaker. Darija must be from the Fez/Casablanca region. I am open to the voice artist bringing her own creativity and spirit into the reading and this role requires a few extra hours to workshop the character of the voice over with the filmmaker whose voice also forms part of the film’s narrative.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VOICE ARTIST – PLEASE READ:

    - a native Darija speaker (Fez/Casablanca region);

    - the film character who speaks Darija is a woman in her 50s;

    - Possesses a sensibility towards experimentation;

    - Ability to take direction, think creatively and work quickly;

    - Experience of working in a professionally operated sound studio;

    - The artist will be ideally based in London or the neighbouring areas, has to be able to travel to London;

    - Ability to take pre-production meeting in person or over the phone or Skype.

    KEY DETAILS

    Type: short film 20mins, with approximately 10 mins of voice over in Darija

    Compensation: this is an independent production and a flat fee will be between £300 - £400 depending on experience;

    Duration of activity: one day in a recording studio, three hours of rehearsal studio (the text will be provided in Darija);

    Date of activity: early September (including the rehearsals)

    Location: Sound studio (provided by the filmmaker)

    I am a multimedia artist and writer whose hybrid works explore the transformative potential of apparatuses, dreams and memories in the creation of societal myths and narratives.

    I am a 2021 Jarman Award nominee. My most recent film, uchronia no.1 (2020), received Jurors’ Award at the 59th Ann Arbor Film Festival (2021). My previous work, noonwraith blues (2020), was awarded the Honourable Mention Award at the 2021 United States Super 8 Film and DV Festival, New Jersey and it was among the three winners of the 2020 Bomb Factory Artist's Film Festival, London. My films screened at many festivals and galleries worldwide: most recently at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, CROSSROADS, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives New York; Studio Gallery, Warsaw; Whitechapel Gallery, British Film Institute, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Visions in the Nunnery, London. I am the recipient of many international grants, most recently, the Arts Council England Project Grants, British Council, New Mexico Arts, New Mexico Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts (USA), among many others. I am also the author and editor of numerous books and articles on experimental media, including Visions of Avant-Garde Film (Indiana University Press). I teach film and media on the MA Film & Screen Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
