Rhia & the Tree of LightsRhia follows the journey of a British-Indian girl living on the Jurassic Coast who comes across a dusty old box whilst preparing for her last Diwali in her childhood home. She makes exciting discoveries about her Grandma, who lived a rich, colourful life as an Earth Scientist and storyteller of ancient Indian tales! Rhia & her friends set off on a thrilling adventure to find something that's been missing for a very long time. Exploring both ancestry and modern lives, climate change and complex rural worlds, Rhia celebrates cultures, family and the places we call home. A hilarious, heartwarming, epic adventure story for all ages, featuring vibrant original music, and Quirk’s trademark sense of the ridiculous!https://www.quirktheatre.co.uk/Project Dates:As this is not a performing role, the candidate does not need to be available throughout the entire rehearsal and performance period, but will need to be able to deliver a fully recorded score by November 19th.R&D: 3 days in week commencing 13th September 2021REHEARSALS: 3rd - 26th November 2021PERFORMANCES: 29th- 28th December 2021About QuirkQuirk Theatre is an Exeter-based family theatre company, co-founded by Simon Hall and co-led by dramaturg and theatremaker Katie Villa. For 18 years, Quirk Theatre has been making joyful, innovative and high-quality family theatre Christmas shows for all generations, at Exeter Phoenix, and more recently at Plough Arts Centre in North Devon. Witty, playful and often anarchic, Quirk pride themselves on devising original works with a social conscience, offering a meaningful alternative to pantomime, with close to 4000 people enjoying our Christmas shows every year pre-Covid. We are proud to continue our Relaxed and BSL performances this Christmas.Quirk shows are often a child’s first experience of theatre, and we take this responsibility seriously. We have reflected on our practices this year and are committed to celebrating and meaningfully presenting a story with a British-Indian family at its heart. We are working with a new team of South Asian creatives for Rhia, and we hope to warmly welcome South Asian and Global majority audiences to make theatre an experience for everyone.
