  • Project Details
’A Kept Man’ is a new musical by writer and producer Matthew Bugg, whose previous show ‘Miss Nightingale’ did five UK tours before transferring to the West End. It is set against the backdrop of the Oscar Wilde trials, but instead of focusing on Wilde’s life it explores the impact of these events on ordinary men and women. It explores gender, sexuality and privilege through the relationship between a land owner and his gamekeeper. The piece combines contemporary beats and synths with folk, pagan and classical instruments to create a complex, powerful and intimate score. Much of the music is performed live by a company of actor musicians. For an example of the aesthetic watch this video.INSTRUMENTS:All candidates are required to play either guitar, piano, a stringed instrument or a woodwind instrument to an advanced standard. Keyboard skills are an advantage, as is the ability to read music.SINGING:The vocal score is very complex with challenging harmonies. If this is not something you are comfortable with, then this project is probably not for you. An ability to sight sing is also an advantage.DATES:There will be a one-week R and D process from the 28th October in either Leeds or Sheffield. This will culminate in a showcase performance on the 2nd of November in Sheffield. The showcase will be performed with scripts in hand as a semi-staged concert performance.Prior to this week, there will be two days of online preparatory work and one days recording session in Sheffield. These will be arranged in the weeks prior to the R and D around the actor’s availability.FEES:There is a flat fee of £800 for the job. Any additional days will be paid at a daily rate of £100 per day or £50 for a half day. (Half day fees will only apply if the work is carried out on zoom. Otherwise a full day’s fee will be paid).Accommodation and travel will be provided by the company. Attachments:
