  • Project Details
    The Creative Diversity team works closely with internal and external creative partners on  a wide range of channel defining programming, from the Paralympics to the recent Black To Front project.The team provides leadership to the commissioning team and independent producers to ensure successful implementation of Channel 4’s inclusion and diversity plans, greater representation on and off screen and appropriate compliance with the Equality Act. Ensuring that Channel 4’s content represents and authentically portrays a wide range of voices, backgrounds and experiences from across the UK. The team acts as a frontline unit connected to and in touch with creative communities and emergent companies. The team assists start-ups, regionally based and diverse led companies to ensure greater representation throughout the supply chain. Through the Creative Diversity Fund the team collaborate with commissioning editors to support development and pilot projects to make sure that new ideas and talent have the best chance of success. The fund also supports the progression of off-screen talent at all levels on Channel 4 shows.JOB PURPOSETo ensure that the Creative Diversity team delivers the ‘engage and enable’ strategy in a timely and effective manner, and in accordance with the Channel 4’s commitments To oversee tactical project delivery, particularly related to the urgent challenges around off-screen disability inclusion.To proactively anticipate, identify and engage with  internal opportunities and external conversations to increase our impact around disability inclusion and disruptionTo provide a multiplicity of disability expertise and perspective within the Creative Diversity team and for the wider businessTo ensure consistent cover within the Creative Diversity team for disability-related questions and enquiries KEY RESPONSIBILTIESProject management: to provide tactical project delivery in support of the Creative Diversity & Disability Lead’s ‘engage & enable’ strategy. Including ownership of key tasks, managing appropriate relationships internally and externally, monitoring progress, and reporting outcomes Off-screen talent support: in particular, to lead on projects related to the inclusion and progression of off-screen disabled talent such as 4Access and the C4 Talent Tracker, in support of the Channel 4 Commissioning Diversity Guidelines and towards the industry-wide Doubling Disability targetEvent logistics: to lead, plan and deliver key events and meetings, including talent attraction, outreach and networking events such as 4Connect. Initial point of contact: to monitor and respond to adhoc enquires to the Creative Diversity team related to disability both externally and internally, especially those which are from/about disabled production talentTechnical and administrative support: to produce presentations, agendas and briefing documents in support of the Creative Diversity & Disability Lead attending events, meetings and panelsResearch & insight: to engage with disabled creative communities and keep across key events, discussions, and issues; to spot opportunities for Creative Diversity to add value internally, and externally for Channel 4 to have impact in the disability spaceESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCEInclusion & Diversity ExpertiseProven inclusion and diversity knowledge and expertise, preferably within a creative settingExperience of delivering disability awareness, inclusion and accessibility projects to ensure greater inclusion. Demonstrable ability to find creative and resourceful solutions to implementing a complex disability and wider inclusion and diversity agenda.Excellent working knowledge of UK disability legislation and ability to advise on disability related HR policies and practicesUnderstanding of the nuances of intersectionality Broadcasting understandingDeep understanding and experience of disability in the broadcasting industry, in particular within the independent production sector. Extensive knowledge, understanding and a passion for the UK’s disabled creative talent and communities.Continually finding creative ways to engage producers, commissioning editors and casting directors to use and promote disabled talent on and off screen.Thorough understanding of Commissioning and Scheduling in order to advise producers and commissioning editors on disability related programme proposals and ideasProven understanding of and commitment to Channel 4’s remit and 360 Diversity Charter.Detailed knowledge and understanding of recent broadcast and digital content Technical & Professional SkillsCommunication and influencing skills and a high degree of self-confidence to speak publicly, chair meetings and lead discussions.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate experiences, programmes, processes and look for opportunities to make change.Understanding of Corporate Relations in order to get the public service broadcasting message to OFCOM, MPs and other stakeholders, Press, and Marketing
