After the fall of humanity, a family lives in an isolated cabin where they have been able to survive. Forced to remain in their metaphorical purgatory, the family’s lives have become extremely mundane and the three are merely existing together indefinitelyThe father, Arthur, is man with a hardened soul and does what he can to make his wife and daughter's lives livable. Already living through a loveless marriage, Arthur’s wife Tess becomes even more emotionally distant following the death of their son and she begins to ponder what the family’s purpose in life could be. Their daughter Angie has grown up in this new world and knows only the details her parents tell her about the world that was. With no influence from the outside world, Angie is extremely naïve and acts much younger than her age would suggest.In order to give his daughter a life worth living, Arthur only seeks to provide however he finds that more is asked of him than he can give when his wife makes one last terrible request. The film tackles sensitive taboo subject themes whilst also asking more philosophical questions such as much it truly means to be humanCharacter breakdowns:MAIN:ARTHUR (male, 35-50) is a man who comes from a military background in his former life. He is extremely emotionally disciplined and has been forged by the harshness of the world around him in addition to his loveless marriage. Despite his ruggedness, he gives way to a softer side around his daughter who provides his life purpose. He has darker hair and a beard. TESS (female, 35-45) is an emotionally reserved person but in a desperate attempt to keep her sanity, she has leaned into her faith in an unhealthy way. Believing the family has been left alive for a specific purpose, she begins to manipulate her daughter, taking advantage of Angie’s trusting and naïve ways. ANGIE (female, 18-24) is innocence personified. She was spared from the cruelty of human society prior to the end of things but now lacks basic intuition that comes with living in a vast and complicated world. She is a victim of circumstance and knows no better than to wake up and live on day after day.
