  • Project Details
A Master's student's graduation Film, “Pig Buddies Unite!” is a short drama-comedy about a blended family, living in the US.

Ellie (20) would never choose to befriend someone like Ben (55), her stepfather from the USA. If she saw him in real life, she would stay 1000 miles away from him. He’s loud, obnoxious, and has a completely different set of political views to her own. But still, Ellie knows that her mother loves Ben. Plus she’s seen the goodness in him, even if he did vote for Trump.

Ben is a successful self-made entrepreneur, with a larger-than-life personality. He's creative and eccentric, stubborn and obsessive. He lived with his mother for years until finally meeting his “soulmate” in Ellie’s mom, Annie (51). Ben wants to connect with Annie’s children but doesn’t know how to go about it in a conventional way. Growing up as an only child, he immersed himself in his imagination, and as an adult enjoys escaping into fantasy every day.

Audrey (16), Ellie’s sister can’t stand this, Annie thinks it’s just a silly game, but Ellie thinks that by engaging in his games, she just might be able to communicate and better understand him. Maybe she can find a way to get along with Ben after all.

In a world where it’s become increasingly easy to be intolerant of those who share different opinions from us, this film aims to show how you can get along, even with someone who is different from you. With relationships being digitalized, we can easily shun the people that we disagree with, and often with very little consequence to ourselves. We can unfollow them, block them, hate them, cancel them, but toxicity aside, what if this wasn’t a solution? What if this was a person you loved or lived under the same roof with? "Pig Buddies Unite!" explores this dilemma through a lighthearted lens.
