We are producing an 8-10 minute short film called I Wish that tells the story of an immigrant girl facing prejudgment about her identity.

Short Story Synopsis

 

Deniz, an immigrant filmmaking student, waits in the corridor of a film school to pitch her idea. Then she enters the pitch room. First nervous, starts talking with a strong accent. Her film idea is a magical realistic story about prejudgment named The Girl with Enormous Thumb. Very enthusiastic about the story, her confidence increases gradually. After finishing her pitch, she receives unexpected criticism about her English from the committee.

Crestfallen, she leaves the school. walks on the street for a while. Then she sits near a lake where she meets with a deaf painter. He teaches her a life lesson and they understand each other through art.

We are producing the short as part of our project at Metfilm School, one of the top film schools in London. It is fully funded and will be shot on the top-of-the-line Sony FS7.

Written and directed by Zehra Ozturk, who directed previously several short films and documentaries. Other than the interest to explore hot topics like race, immigration and discrimination, Zehra was drawn to this project because of her personal experiences as a foreigner in England.



Andrei Radu will be the DOP. He is an experienced DOP, worked in many short films as a DOP and camera assistant.

The shooting will take place in Ealing London on the 29th of January.



Knowing how to paint is a bonus.
