    Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation. SPE's global operations encompass motion picture production, acquisition and distribution; television production, acquisition and distribution; television networks; digital content creation and distribution; operation of studio facilities; and development of new entertainment products, services and technologies.

    The position manages the life cycle of custom research projects that address the Strategic Marketing & Research Department’s needs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: proficiency in independently handling research projects (such as advertising copy testing, concept testing, attitudes and usage studies, and audience segmentation analysis) end to end, from the design phase through the finished report/presentation; the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure; drafting questionnaires; managing projects in the field; and specifying and checking data tabulations. Additionally, the Manager position is responsible for writing internal strategy reports and assisting in the presentation of results to filmmakers, and the Creative Advertising groups at Columbia, Screen Gems, Tristar, and Studio 8.

    Responsibilities:

    There are two main priorities for the Manager position: 1) giving research vendors specific direction that articulates the department’s strategic goals and, 2) interpreting the data we receive from vendors to help inform our creative advertising campaign for Columbia, Screen Gems, Tristar, and Studio 8.

    Actively participating in the formation of creative advertising strategy, including attending weekly meetings and speaking to the research findings. This candidate’s responsibilities include giving research direction to our vendors -- specifically, designing the demographic profile of the audience we are sampling, writing and overseeing questionnaires that are used in the field for data analysis, and overseeing quality control over data tabulations for ad testing and screenings.
    The candidate will work intimately with the Creative Advertising groups for Columbia, Screen Gems, Tristar, and Studio 8, by interpreting research results that help inform messaging and creative content for TV spots and trailers.

    Apart from the two aforementioned responsibilities, the candidate is also responsible for managing our research database, including box office historicals, ad testing, print testing, and Positioning/Branding Studies. This database is extremely confidential and its organization is imperative for marketing analysis that helps us decide on release dates and marketplace competition. This position is also responsible for overseeing the weekly testing process internally and with our research vendors. Unfinished film footage is shared with the public in early phases of advertising campaigns. Again, this is an independent role and is a highly confidential and crucial job function for the security of the studio and the internal marketing strategy of the division.

    Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree

    Minimum of 4 years of Market Research experience, preferably within Theatrical or Entertainment

    Knowledge of:

    Individual must possess extreme proficiency in written and quantitative skills; SPSS/ Regression Analysis are mandatory; Extremely strong working knowledge of creative advertising process

    Skill In:

    Extremely strong analytical skills; Quantitative and Qualitative research background is a must; Familiarity with methodologies and the latest approaches to Ad Testing, Branding and Positioning; Basic understanding of Final Cut Pro is not mandatory, but is quite helpful

    Ability To:

    Must be detailed oriented and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
    Excellent written and oral communication as well as presentation skills
