Hamilton parody musical ​Spamilton to close Off-Broadway

The show began its run in July 2016 and celebrated 500 shows on November 14.

Written by Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandri, Spamilton is a parody of the historical, hip hop-flavoured smash-hit Hamilton, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Spamilton initially debuted at The Triad theatre, New York, where it was scheduled to play 18 shows but – after intense demand – was extended.

The production moved from the Triad to 47th Street Theatre in June, where it was scheduled to play an open ended run. 

But a representative for the show told the New York Times that the theatre will no longer be available after January 7.

The current cast is made up of Dan Rosales, Nicole Vanessa Ortiz, Chris Anthony Giles, Aaron Michael Ray, and Tristan J. Shuler.

The Times also stated that a national tour of Spamilton is in the works, as well as a London production in the near future.

Spamilton’s general management team includes Laura Cronin and Scott Newsome from Brierpatch Productions and the creative team includes Gerry McIntyre (choreography), Dustin Cross (costume design), Richard Danley and Fred Barton (musical arrangements), and Michael Cassara (casting director).

The show is produced by John Freedson, Christine Pedi, David Zippel, and Alessandrini.

Hamilton's London production is set to kick off in December at the Victoria Palace Theatre on the West End.
