Jean Dujardin and Luc Besson team up on new ABC Drama ‘The French Detective’
Oscar-winning The Artist star Jean Dujardin is set to act in a new pilot, with Fifth Element and Leon director Luc Besson attached to direct.
‘The French Detective’ is based on James Patterson’s mystery novels.
The series is set around Parisian detective Luc Moncrief (Dujardin), who moves to New York to join the NYPD in order to leave his previous life.
Patterson’s series consists of three books, ‘French Kiss’, ‘The Christmas Mystery’ and ‘French Twist’, all revolving around Detective Moncrief.
It's not the first time James Patterson’s work has been adapted for the small screen, with series ‘Zoo’, based on his 2012 novel, recently ending a three-season run on CBS.
‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and ‘The Monuments Men’ star Dujardin is best known for his role as s George Valentin in ‘The Artist’ – the 2011 hit that garnered five Oscars, including ‘Best Actor’ for Dujardin.
The ABC Drama will see Luc Besson making his debut as a TV series director.
The French multidisciplinary, who won a Directing BAFTA for ‘Nil by Mouth’ (1997), has worked on numerous feature films including ‘The Fifth Element’ and ‘Lucy’.
As screenwriter, Besson has earned recognition for the hit ‘Taken’ movie franchise and its NBC small-screen prequel, which was recently commissioned for a second season.
‘The French Detective’ is written by ‘Assassin’s Creed’ duo Bill Collage and Adam Cooper, alongside Jonathan Collier, the Executive Producer of ‘Bones’.
