Elton John stunned fans with a surprise appearance at The Lion King’s ’20 years on Broadway’ celebrations.
The Oscar-winning musician took to the stage on November 5, alongside the entire cast, to perform ‘Circle of Life’, to the delight of the unsuspecting audience at the Minskoff Theatre, New York, US.
To celebrate this milestone, creative team members Julie Taymor, Tim Rice, Garth Fagan, Lebo M., Mark Mancina, Roger Allers, and Irene Mecchi joined a host of performers and surprise guests for a special performance of the award-winning show.

Based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name, The Lion King is the 8th longest-running musical in Broadway history.
It has played in 13 countries across the world, sold more than 50 million tickets and, in 2014, was named as the highest grossing production of all time, with box office takings of over $6.2bn (£3.8bn).
Previously, the record for highest-grossing musical was held by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, which is also the longest-running musical on Broadway.
Phantom has been running since 1986 and has attracted over 130 million theatre-goers.
On beating their record, the producers of The Phantom of the Opera congratulated the rival show calling it “The Pride of Broadway”.
A biopic about Elton John is currently in pre-production.
’Rocketman’ will star Kingsman actor Taron Egerton as a young Elton John.Tags:
