Tina Turner launches autobiographical musical on the West End
The now retired superstar made a rare public appearance at the London's Hospital Club, joined by the Broadway phenomenon Adrienne Warren, to launch the new West End musical TINA.
Telling the story of Turner's rise to fame and with Warren confirmed for the lead role, the project will feature some of the singer's best-known and loved tracks, and is said to inspire new theatre audiences with its depiction of a strong woman and inspirational theme of pursuing your dreams no matter what.
Speaking at the launch, Warren shared her personal and professional admiration: “She is strength, power and grace personified, and a motivation, an inspiration to all women, but especially women of colour."
Directing the musical is UK's own powerhouse, Phyllida Lloyd (MAMMA MIA!, THE IRON LADY), who wholeheartedly embraced the project, as she's “been looking for another woman’s story, a story that makes a difference to women in the audience and sends everybody out on that high of joy and excitement that Mamma Mia! did”.
TINA will premiere at the Aldwych Theatre, London in April 2018.Tags:
