SHORTS Festival, Pants on Fire

Posted By Pants on Fire

SHORTS is a collaborative festival of performer-created 15 minute solo theatre pieces, that will run between February and May 2021 (dates still to be confirmed).

Pants on Fire is seeking 12 proposals for short solo stories to be performed in the festival. Each selected piece will be owned by the performers - they will write, create, rehearse and perform it themselves with creative input and support from Pants on Fire.

We value diversity and craft. We are particularly interested in hearing from Black, Asian, Indian & Mixed ethnicity applicants, and LGBTQIA + artists.

Subject to Arts Council funding, each performer will be paid a flat fee of £600 for the contact time they spend with Pants on Fire (6 days scheduled over 3 months). This contact time will be in London as follows:

  • A two-day group workshop bringing together all of the participants. Exploring different approaches, techniques, skills and ideas for storytelling. During this weekend, publicity shots and video will be taken to promote the festival. These workshops will take place in a large space using social distancing, and all of the work is individual.

  • 3 x separate 2 hour rehearsal/collaborative work sessions at monthly intervals.

  • One performance/filming day. This will be a multi-angled recording at the Tristan Bates Theatre (possibly with a live socially distanced audience).

In addition to this, performers will be required to work on their story in their own time. It is vital that performers continue with their independent development in their own time in order to maximise the contact time used with Pants on Fire.

We hope that SHORTS Festival will be able to be performed in front of a live socially distanced audience at Tristan Bates Theatre in central London. With or without an audience, the finished edited recordings of pieces will be presented online via the Tristan Bates On-demand platform.
