About me
I started out developing my acting as a teenager completing a foundation course with a critically well received performance at the Edinburgh Festival in 1977. Then life took a different turn and by my mid-twenties I was working in TV & Video post production industry. I returned to acting in 2007 after I moved to Devon and got involved with some local drama groups which led to a professional engagement with Another Story Theatre Company, with whom I was an associate artist and have lent my technical skills to a zero budget feature film version of the same production. In 2016 formed Baobab Film & Theatre Company along with Jason Housecroft and Phil John. Developing and present theatre and films. Our first two short films made an impact internationally and various Indie festivals. Our most recent short, "Flies", (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flies-Tim-McGill/dp/B08G33CFPF) as well as getting placed as finalist and semi-finalist in various independent festivals worldwide also won Best Film at the London Short Film Reviews festival, The Festival award at The English Riviera Film Festival and the audience choice prize in the South West Filmathon Thing, an online festival held in Summer of 2020 screening regional independent films made over the last 5 years from Bristol to Lands End. I was actually involved with 5 projects out of the 215 programmed in that festival, 2 as director/writer, 2 as lead actor and one for voice-over for "We Do Not Fear The Dark" a poetic and stunning film about the Ottery St Mary tar barrel run, https://vimeo.com/312922113. Baobab Theatre are currently in the last stages of production for our latest project, a feature film called "Last Orders". Out theatre work has involved immersive presentations, working to an essential script or concept but requiring very agile presenting and improvisational skills. I have a fair range of playing ages + or - 10 years depending on beard, haircut etc. of my actual age.Acting experience:
Lots of experience in many major roles in community theatre with Dartington Playgoers and more professional live and film/theatre work including voice-over in recent years.
Singing experience:
Presently sing and play in a band, training consisted of school choir and a foundation course in performing arts.
Television experience:
Much used extra in 2015 Comic Strip feature "Red Top".
Specific skills:
I'm a versatile actor and good sight reader, recently I have been engaged for voice over work.
Interesting past experiences:
I have travelled in trekked in The Himalayas and The Andes, hung out with the indigenous people, particularly in Peru. I used to ride a motorbike, then, after an accident, a trike. Last big trip was LA in 2019 to attend The Philip K Dick Film Festival in Santa Ana, in which "Flies", a film I had the principal role in, was a finalist.
My interests:
Lately my interests have narrowed down to producing and performing in theatre and film, and playing in the band I'm in - the Ukelective, to the expense of most others, such as gardening and the outdoors. Lots to be done there!
