About me
I am currently at Rainbow Production working full time on the creation of big mascots.I have excellent hand and machine sewing skills. I can provide a portfolio showing a range of works, on request. I also have a good knowledge of different fabrics, stitching techniques and garment construction acquired through making many garments, experiencing with a lot of different fabrics. I have designed and made jackets, trousers, shirts, braids, piping and biased binding and boned bodice using my own blocks.I have acquired experience in hand and freehand machine embroidery.Having studied History up to Master’s degree level, I not only have a good knowledge of historical costumes but also of the research that is needed when understanding the social constraints of an era and its repercussions on costumes.
Having work as part of several departments, I am a good team player but I am also an independent and competent member of a team. Providing that the brief is clear, I am happy to work independently and I feel confident in my ability to communicate with colleagues and superiors.
Additional skills:
Working at Academy Costume has given me a clear understanding of what theatre deadlines are, that the time scale of creating costumes for a production are very short indeed and that the many amendments that are often required are chronophage and reduce the time scale. I enjoyed working under pressure as I feel most people pull together in solidarity in times of pressure and things get done in a most efficient way. It is usually rewarding when the job is done and helps give the colleagues a sense of team work and solidarity.
