About me
BaHons degree in costume construction for stage and screen. I have an exceptional eye for detail. I specialise in corsetry, and I am a multi award winning and published bead embroidery and bead weaving artist (British Bead Awards, Category Non-Jewellery first prize in 2012 and 2013, currently a competitor in the Beadsmith 2014, published in Bead Magazine).Skilled in all aspects of costume construction (measuring, pattern making, fitting and sewing).
I work confidently with all materials, from normal warp and weft textiles to PVC, latex and even silicone bathroom sealant. Due to my interest in using unusual materials for construction and embellishment I am a very confident and efficient problem solver.
Between productions I make customised garments for individuals - burlesque performers, dance competitors and wedding dresses.
Additional skills:
Alterations, repurposing, recycling, dresser, sewn props maker, costume seller at events.
Referees:
Available upon request.
Additional information:
Due to personal reasons I do not sew leather or fur.
Crew:
I am a hard working and enthusiastic costume maker who enjoys a diverse range of work. I am friendly, creative, inquisitive and eager to face new challenges. I work well as part of a group or independently, and I am happy to interpret the designs of others as much as making my own designs.
I can make my own garment patterns and fit these to individuals, and construct garments to a professional standard by sewing.
In addition to the usual embellishment skills such as applique, quilting and embroidery (hand, ribbon and machine) I can print fabric, create texture through heat transfer methods, solvent lift images, dye and distress garments to age them, make bobbin lace, and I am an accomplished bead-weaver. I work confidently with all materials, from normal warp and weft textiles to PVC, latex and even silicone bathroom sealant. Due to my interest in using unusual materials for construction and embellishment I am a very confident problem solver. I have a real passion for corsetry and underwear, both historic and contemporary.
Referees:
Caroline Thomas, course tutor, Velda Lauder, previous work experience employer.
Additional information:
I was recently a runner up in a pantomime dame competition which was judged by members of the cast and crew for the Robin Hood panto, New Theatre, Cardiff.
Due to personal reasons I do not work with leather or fur.
