*Have sewing machine, made 1 party costume, and 1 theatre prop. Not really knowledgeable in costume-making and sewing techniques but have the potential to learn.
Innovative and resourceful in my approach to making things.
Happy experimenting and learning new methods/skills.
Particularly good when designing with themes.
Objective and lateral thinker.
Like a dog with a bone when it comes to research. A lover of authenticity and the little details that make something special.
Times were hard when I graduated, so I worked in retail for 2 highly regarded high street stores. Gained a heap of experience working with people and loved delivering creative solutions for customers' everyday problems. Trusted with responsibilities in stock management and basic till/safe accountancy amongst others.
I am looking for placements/experience in props, scenic art, and design on an assistant or entry level basis. I am KEEN TO LEARN more 'industrial' methods, including fibre-glass, foam sculpting, moulding, CNC cutting etc, as well as a more polished approach to model-making.
I want to become a better designer and thinker by understanding prop/set construction methods and technical elements including budgeting as well as a general industry standards and understanding.
I would love to put AutoCAD to use, it is an addictive tool and I will be teaching myself 3D methods soon.
I have endeavoured to take on creative projects alongside my job to stay sane as well as to build different skills;
*Been responsible for props - making and sourcing, maintaining etc for 2 successful and demanding productions of a well respected local Am-Dram Theatre Company.
*Created 2 window displays for local high-street business.
*Casual crew for B'ham Hippodrome.
*Made 25 table centres for an awards dinner at the Hippodrome.
*Created various print collateral; logos, flyers/posters, B-Cards, banners etc for local businesses.
*Organised (amongst others) 2 small private events: venue, catering, music as well as activities and decorations, mostly created by myself.
*Created the theming and concept for a local society event.
*Volunteered at 2 B'ham council arty events across city, incl stewarding, and assisting a workshop for kids.
*Whilst at Uni, we worked on sculptures for Download Festival '08. Creating large 3D "tattoos" out of card, camping-mat foam and fibre-glass etc. And installed them.
*Volunteered with local branch of Round Table with their charity duties, including the annual summer park event; Christmas float charity collection; early Christmas party for the elderly locals, whom suffer from loneliness.
* Watching performances - live or immersive.
Going to events and exhibitions etc.
*New places, new faces, and being with my friends.
*Travelling/exploring and trying new flavours.
* History and genealogy - the latter is an area that has honed my research skills and determination to a fine pointy weapon to be feared, they don't like it up 'em! A huge area of fascination.
* Languages and cultures - I can survive in Spanish, dabbled in Mandarin, forgotten a fair bit of French, had a go at Gaelic and generally love trying to learn what I can of anything.
*Music - very eclectic taste, I just never know who sings what.
*Books - hands down favourites Hitchhikers Guide and Etymologicon.
*Films/TV - don't like watching horror. Big fan of the classics though.
*Animals - anything up to 4 legs.
*Love a good quiz!
*Baking/conf - Made awesome edible computer for my brother's birthday, then had to make a second on request of friend; complete with keyboard, mouse, wires and desk-tidy with contents << all edible.
*Collecting art - particularly retro/vintage paraphernalia and advertisements.
*Current affairs and new technologies.
*Hate things going to waste/landfill, so love the idea of up-cycling, one day I will give it a go.
*Nutella! ... amongst plenty of other things I could write.
Creative & detail-centric. Aspiring designer/maker wishing to gain experience & skills in set/props.
