Additional Skills
Workshops have been undertaken in pattern cutting, tutu making, costume conservation, draping, creative pattern cutting, fabric dyeing, tailoring and millinery during my degree.
Over the past two years I have been working part time (and full time since graduating summer 2020) in a lovely local fabric shop. This, alongside previous work experience, has provided direct contact with customers and giving advice on their projects (from quilting to dressmaking to costume work), and this has helped with identifying different fabrics and knowing what works with specific projects which ultimately will also help me with costume making.
Other projects since graduating have included sewing scrubs for the NHS, making and selling facemasks and taking on on dressmaking, lingerie making and local alterations.
About me
I'm Dani, originally from the Netherlands now living in Essex, UK since 2017. I recently finished studying BA (Hons) Costume Construction: First Class degree at University Centre South Essex, which is in partnership with the Royal Opera house and validated by the University of the Arts London. Costume making started to peak my interest a few years ago so after working as a web-developer for a few years I decided to take on costume professionally in 2017. The combination of skills learned over the years from my degree, work experiences and everything I had taught myself prior have prepared me for the industry and I am currently looking for work in the costume industry. I have always been very dedicated to my work and costume interest, am eager keep learning and to explore, can work both independently or collaboratively.
