About me
For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for fashion history and have loved to meticulously note essential details from period dramas, historical films and costume museums. Having achieved a 2:1 degree in history from the University of Sussex, I have a firm knowledge of historical context, but also have the practical skills of pattern cutting, sewing and customising garments. My enthusiasm is second to none and I am thoroughly determined to achieve my career goal within the costume industry. I currently work as a wardrobe manager at an educational theatre in Portsmouth called Groundlings Theatre Company which has approximately 10 000 costumes used in various productions and available for hire. I have learned to adapt to what is available to me at the theatre as there is practically no budget so I have had to learn to be adaptable. My other roles include managing the volunteers; producing the costumes for actors; dealing with varied and numerous costume enquiries; and marketing the costume hire. In order to market the costume hire, I regularly put in additional hours out of my own time as I really want it to be a success. One of most recent marketing successes was an historical fashion show that I put on which really helped my organisational and people skills. Overall, I find costume exciting, adventurous and a great love of mine and am so eager to learn more!Crew:
I am incredibly hard-working and quick to adapt to varying productions and to working with new teams of people in different locations. I have a lot to contribute in my own right, as well as in support of any team and I work well under pressure. Having undertaken a history degree, gaining the necessary research skills and historical knowledge in costume design, I am also a competent sewer with pattern cutting and styling skills and experience. I spent a year working as a Wardrobe Supervisor at Groundlings Theatre in Portsmouth, costuming the numerous productions and events sourced from the hundreds of costumes I managed. I also have stand-by experience gained by working for Talkback Thames and Working Title, as well as Costume Design experience in a feature film and a short film.
