About me
I started my training as a performer at the age of 6 years old at Betty Fox Stage School. This was merely the spark to my creative ambitions. I then went on to be in numerous theatre productions at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre where I became a big part of the community there.I felt at the age of around 10 that I wanted to take my abilities to another level by joining the Birmingham Carlton Television Workshop which then became the ITV Workshop. Working under the wing of Colin Edwards I started to develop my acting skills further and I learnt a lot more about television acting which I had no knowledge of until joining the workshop. I did my first television series for Channel 4 called "Say What You Think" which filled me with even more experience. Each time I did a job I would learn a lot about people's different ways of acting and the different techniques involved to develop a character to its full extent.
I was in a film called "Crusade in Jeans" which was a massive experience for me because it enabled me to gain independence by working away from home in Germany and Luxembourg. I would say it's one of my best experiences to date because I learnt such a variety of things such as fighting, working with weapons and it was also interesting to work with people who spoke a different language. Most of the crew were Dutch and some of the actors used also spoke a different language. I believe it enhanced my communication skills.
I also was a part of the Young Repertory Youth Theatre, which proved to be another step up in developing myself. I learnt such a large variety of things, I did musical theatre, Meisner, Brecht, Shakespeare and one really important one which has stayed with me is Complicite which I think really changed the way I worked with my fellow actors and gave me the ability to get onto this level of understanding everyone performing around me.
I am currently still part of Sylvia Young's Agency but my objective is to be a Casting Director, Acting has always just been a bonus to me.
I studied my A levels at Stratford Upon Avon College where I studied photography in my first year which was a completely new skill to me and one that has inspired me to continue with. I am currently developing my knowledge of Photoshop and I have just purchased a brand new DSLR.
Film Studies was another of the subjects I studied looking at a variety of different aspects including British cinema, Hong Kong, Shocking cinema and the cinema industry. I learnt how to analyse film intensively by looking closely at Mise En Scene which are the micro aspects but also the macro aspects which is the narrative and genre.
I studied performing arts also at A-level standard. Through this I learnt a lot about Stanislavsky whose techniques I studied and put into practice to progress in my knowledge of the performing world. Although there was a large amount of work practically, I was also required to produce a portfolio on performing industry taking an in depth look at the life of an actor and documenting my progress through the course so I could improve my skills.
The more I did acting work the more I found it intriguing to analyse the different ways how people perform and what they would be suited to. I have always been good at spotting strengths and weaknesses in actors because I look at everything on the whole so I can get a complete image of my opinion.
The last subject I studied was Media and Communication Studies where I learnt about the television and film industry. In the first year we looked at different ways companies work looking at vertical integration and horizontal integration and the ways a conglomerate company can utilise all its other companies to market a product. The first year also required me to produce short projects in groups, developing camera skills and a basic process to create a video project.
In the second year I took on the professional process of making a 10 minute short film. Writing, producing, filming, editing. Every single process involved I did individually. I learnt to work with Avid Editing software which is professional video editing software and I also developed my camera operating skills also. This was a hard task and there was a heavy work load with short deadlines. This pushed my organisation skills to the maximum and I ended up with a complete polished product which had been well researched and produced to its potential. It also taught me a lot about how to problem solve as well because there were many different problems along the way and to overcome them was a well rewarding task.
My skills also branch out in to music, I write and produce my own songs. I play guitar, piano, drums and sing.
I am familiar with Excel, PowerPoint, Nero and many more programmes. I am confident that no matter what the software is I will be able to use my initiative to find the correct way of using it. I am very much a person about research so I tend to learn fast from the things that I find out.
