About me
I am a Set and Costume Designer, with a PhD in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro/ Chelsea College of the Arts based in London since 2015.Most of my career was developed in Brazil, with ciateatroautônomo (Autonomous Theatre Company), a contemporary theatre company I directed from 1989 to 2013.
I have worked behind the scenes in a range of contexts, in theatres and on TV and film sets. These situations have required me to work efficiently and develop excellent relations with the artists involved be it singers, actors and dancers. As well as working independently as a Costume Designer I also have much experience as an Assistant and Associate Designer. Apart from the variety of genres I have worked for, the projects I get involved have given me the opportunity to exercise diverse approaches, being rigorous in terms of historical fidelity or, at times, inventive. On productions on a smaller scale I have had to take charge of supervising and managing costume departments as well so I am adept in understanding the needs of performers and communicating and translating them in to the practical language of the making department.
Moreover, my skills encompass making a considerable range of alterations to costumes, from the basic ones to the re-use of materials to construct a new costume; accessories for costumes making and costume breakdown; and as I have experience in Prop Making, I also have basic skills in hat and wig making.
Since I moved to London I have worked for several opera, play and dance productions. In February 2017, I started working for Prangsta Costumiers (www.prangsta.co.uk), as a free-lance designer/maker.
I am a hardworking, enthusiastic person who is passionate about creating. I enjoy using inventive yet highly effective methods to create a successful approach.
