About me
Having recently graduated from Wimbledon College of Arts with a First Class Honours in Costume for Theatre and Screen, I am now searching for work which will build on my previous industry experience in theatre, film, circus and carnival arts. I have extensive experience in community-based performance arts, wardrobing and production roles and have excellent costume construction skills. As a designer, my costume practice focuses on design for dance and the body in motion. My design work takes a phenomenological approach to costuming, often linking to academic and conceptual questioning of the materiality of the body, and therefore, the relationship between body, space and costume.
Exploration of body-costume agency underlines my recent projects, which investigate costume as an extension of the body, granting equal agency to both performer and material.
Designing for the moving body allows me to express these meaningful questions within a performance context.
Alongside dance, I am influenced by the circus and outdoor arts, two live performance settings I have worked in extensively. I am inspired by the extravagance of these art forms and the strong sense of community they create within an accessible and inclusive environment. Designing in an outdoor arts context allows me to push the boundaries of conventional costume through the use of innovative materials and designs. This allows me to tread the line between costume, prop and set, and experiment with materials and techniques to create large scale, 3-dimensional costume-prop outcomes.
